Enjoying a rare day off from work, ran across these online today, all local. Good thing I gigged for 4 hours last night after working for 11. I'm tired, sore, and going back to bed. Otherwise I might be in my car... My wallet is safe for now.

1986 Gibson Explorer Shadow Bass - $2200

The shop selling that Explorer had that up on ebay recently for $3,300.
And it's still listed on Reverb for 3299. But "Johnny's" has it listed on FB for $2200. It's not really a shop or brick and mortar store. Just some guy, local to me, that buys and sells guitars, amps, parts, etc... albeit very unique, rare, and expensive, online via FB, Reverb, Ebay, etc... To be honest, I don't see it selling for 2200 either unless it's someone who just wants it for their collection.

I thought $2,200 was high. $3,300 is insane. It's a very interesting bass, and rare. But it's one of those cases where "rare" doesn't translate into dollars.
Couldn't agree with you more. But you think that's bad, same guy has a set of pickups for 3 grand. Who pays 3 grand for pickups?

I see Gibson Explorer basses with good ol' magnetic pickups on Reverb all the time for half that which I think sound way better.....
True, but there are also a lot more of them around too. Not that I'm fond of the sound of the piezo pickup. To be honest, I'm not fond of Gibson anything as far as basses go.

I do have my eye on that Gretsch, and not really fond of that body style either. But for some reason it just pops out at me and I think it's gorgeous. Not to mention the price is very friendly
