I flew America West earlier this year and they were *strictly* enforcing their no instrument policy. They even had signs of a guitar with a big slash through them.
If I have any belieft the flight will be full or is a smaller airplane, I put my gigbag in an SKB Golf Club case. Golf club bags always seem to go on the plane last and come of first. I have yet to be charged any oversize fee and no one has ever given me a second glance.

It only cost about $125 plus another $10 or so in extra foam and adhesive. An old Levy double gigbag fits in it just fine.

That's what I should have done! First, I like the idea of taking two basses with me in one case. Second, my Bass-Safe came down the chute in two pieces when I arrived back in Houston yesterday. It seems that the ATA inspectors (or some curious baggage handlers) took it apart to look inside, and couldn't put it back together again! So they said screw it and through it on in two pieces!Jay Terrien said:I ended up buying the SKB 2SKB-4816W ATA Staff Golf Travel Case:

It fits TWO individual Levy's gigbags (one for my Parker 5, one for my Status Fretless Headless 6) back to back quite nicely with little wiggle room.
Actually, it fits a deflated blow-up doll as well, providing that "she" is sober and nestled at the top, on the foam portion on the interior of the case.![]()
