If you're handy with a soldering iron, you can build a contact mic to put in the bass drum and route it in Reason to act as the gate trigger.

i am, and thats how i came about building my subkick. i wonder what sort of mic i could make out of the tweeter i have laying around. never heard of building a contact mic. i imagine its going to be something super low profile?

A contact mic is basically a Piezoelectric element wired to act as a mic. Really easy to make.

I don't know if Reason can handle VST's but this will convert audio input into trigger signals.

There's probably a dozen ways to do this in Reason directly. They probably have a forum for it someplace.

sounds an awful lot like a subkick, only instead of a sub, its a piezo tweeter, which i have laying around. might make that just for fun.
