It just cuts through the mix, my guitardist likes to have his mids on bass -.- cab being?

Amplifiers generally are metal boxes that take your electrical signal and make it into a bigger signal. Cabinets take that signal and convert it to sound, and generally are wooden boxes that hold speakers. Combos combine the two into a single unit.

If you're boosting mids to cut through, then i believe no string set will get you a darker sound - your combo doesn't have enough power to push out the "dark" lows, even if your bass was producing them in large amounts.

Yes, bassist(me), drummer, one other guitarist and a singer.
I have no idea, something thats been sitting in a garage for X amount of years. Probably a 10w.
