Hey I've basically narrowed it down to 3 amps, but I'm looking for some help. I'm running right now a genz benz 6x10 xb1 and a gb 1x18. I need a head that goes down to 2 ohm and has enough power to push the cabs. I played the acoustic at gc for alittle and it sounded good but I have heard only mediocre reviews. At the same time I have never heard the gbe amps but I have heard outstanding reviews. If I chose the acoustic I would be able to drive to gc this week and pick it up but if I chose the genz benz head I would have to search online to try to find one in my price range. I had found a gbe 1200 on ebay with a buy it now set at 700 but I screwed up and didn't buy it right away(I was trying to get it for 600). Any suggestions would help even if its outside of these amps, or if anyone has a good amp for reggae dub hip hop jazz stuff for sale that goes down to 2ohms for sale within the 600 dollar range please let me know. The acoustic is a good amp but i think the GB will do better for you.

Either GBE will beat the Acoustic. There is nothing wrong with the Acoustic (I have the 200H), but the Genz stuff is just better in ALL aspects. I've owned both GBE's and either would work (the 1200 is very heavy though).
For your situation, a preamp/power amp setup is definitely the way to go. That way you can split your amp so one channel runs the 6x10 and one runs the 18 so you can balance them how you want rather than just feeding both the same level of power. I got an Ashly BP-41 preamp for $50 at GC and a Peavey IPR1600 for $300. They sound great together and they weigh less than 15 pounds minus the rack I have them in.
All you do with a pre/power amp setup is run a cable from the preamp into the power amp, and then it functions like a normal head. Most likely, you'll want to rack them up, and then you'll just have them cabled and set up each time.
Since most PA-style power amps have two channels, they actually would work great for your mismatched cabinets. You can run your 6x10 off of one channel and have a volume for that cab, and you can have your 18 on the other channel and have a separate volume for that one.

I don't know; my Ashly was a used piece from the late 80's or early 90's. There are other options you can go with, though. Tech 21 makes a few rack-mounted pres as well as the Bass VT pedal preamp, which will push a power amp easily. MXR makes the M-80, another pedal-style pre that will run a power amp. BBE makes a couple of racked preamps. There are a few different preamps that pop up here in the classifieds from time to time as well. As for power amps, there are a number of them that you can choose from with different features and power ratings. I'm pretty happy with my IPR1600, but it runs out of headroom sometimes when I'm only running one cab. I don't have any issues with running two 4x10s with it though, and it is rated down to 2 ohms per channel, so it should handle pretty much whatever you throw at it.
