Seriously though, there are some pretty well known brands that haver high failure rates in different parts of Australia.

Really? I'd imagine they'd be pulled from the shelves.

The question I'd really like to ask you GB guys is- Is the 230V GB1200 more likely to fail than say the 230V Fliptop transformer? Or do you guys just have stricter standards?
Also- What part of the amp is likely to be damaged by a voltage spike?

I think any 230v amp is in danger with a 270 volt spike. I'm not an EE but, I'd think a spike can come out (damage) anywhere along the amps circuit. Maybe agedhorse (Andy) can inform further.
