Admittedly, I sat in GC yesterday for 3 hours, just thumping the sh*t out of their amps. I brought my own Carvin Icon 5-string into the store, and just punished amps with the low-B string. I cranked the volume and gain settings liberally, and no one even gave me a look, until I had a question.
I was also impressed with the selection they had; I expected them to tell me that everything I wanted to play was a special-order item, but they had 'em: Markbass, Mesa, GK (the NEW ones - MB210, MB115)...
Sham Ass, on the other hand, SUCKS. They stock nothing but lower-end items, and anything halfway-decent is "not a stock item" or "available on the website only". The guy in basses didn't even know they were listed as a Genz-Benz dealer. He wasn't even familiar with the brand. Sheesh!
Those stores cater to beginner musicians, and people who don't know what they're buying; why else would they stock over 100 Ibanez SDGR basses that are all $599?
Speaking of which, I remember those MM Stingray basses weighing about 100 lbs. Think of your shoulder before making your final decision.
