GC / Mesa divorce good for bass players?

I was down in the San Diego area yesterday on business and popped in to a GC. They had the usual stack of various Mesa gear with clearance tags all over them.
M6 Carbine for $799 with only a few scratchs on the top cover, a PH 212 for $599, and PH 410 for $749. The cabs had a few scratches, no covers, and the 212 did not have the trak lock casters.
I have spent months reading all of the great help and info on this site. I cant tell you how much I have learned.
In any event, I picked up the M6 for $729 and the PH 212 cab for $539. I also got GCs warranty for the amp only.

Any thoughts? I have 30 days to make a decision.
Good price?
warranty worth it?

I too, took advantage of the split. I bought the M6 & PH212 for $1450 including tax in OKC. I wish I had waited to buy my walk-about-scout 12"; they had one for a $1000.
Good value, good product. It has been two days! Wait till my wife sees them, she'll be so proud!
I love my Mesa stuff!

I just got the M6 at GC also. However, I can't decide if I'm going to keep it. It had been sitting there since '09 so it's probably in need of the upgrade, which means I'll have to ship it out to Mesa. Great-sounding amp though, and at a great price. I need to do some more comparisons to my Little Mark Tube 800.

I think that the PH212 that I recently grabbed for $399 was a result of this too. It was listed as used but still had the tags...

That and the used M6 carbine I bought for $399 making up a pretty awesome $800 rig!

I am thinking the same thing. Thank you.
I am only about an hour from the Mesa Hollywood store. I know I could bring it there for any problems.

I wonder if I could get the casters and cover still. I mean it should have come with it. They sold it as new not used.
At minimum, I will get rid of the warranty. Maybe I will give back the M6 and go to hollywood and get the new Prodigy:hyper:

I paid more than that just for ONE of my PH212 cabs... :bawl::bawl:
I need to check out my local GC's and see if they have any Mesa maps they slashed to move.

Well it may be good for bass players looking for deals on Mesa this month, but it won't be for much longer. Then it'll kind of suck. Say what you want about GC, but in a lot of areas, if not for them, you wouldn't be able to try out anything at all.

I agree JimmyM.
I actually like GC. I dont rely on them for my research. I do that on my own. They serve an important part of the purchase chain. Whethter it be the ability to demo products there, or be able to pick up something direclty as opposed to being mailed to you, or simply meet other musicians. I have found GC to provide what I need. Maybe I dont expect a lot from them, this is true. But I feel they are important to the retail music industry.

I disagree. According to my Facebook news feed, Mesa has been adding a ton of mom and pop shops to their fleet of retailers for about the past 2 months. I can see it continuing, so very soon, you'll be able to step into many high class mom and pop shops and groove on the new Mesa gear.

This ain't the first "divorce" GC has had...I was friends with the VP of Sales from Young Chang. They owned Kurzweil. He told me they got into a very heated meeting with GC and basically told them to pack sand, and pulled all their stuff out (this was several years ago). GC thinks because they are an 800lb Gorilla they can bully vendors and drive pricing into the dirt. Good for them, bad for vendors...when this happens, your only hope is to make it up on volume, and sometimes that don't work, and you wind up taking it in the shorts...

Mesa is a great company, with very high standards and honorable staff. I don't know this for a fact, but I can only assume that Mesa finally got tired of their crap...
