Well, I've been lurking around here for a while, but I figured I should join and make a contribution.
About me:
I've gone through the "You know you're a bassist if..." and managed to tick off almost everything. Which is scary considering I picked up a bass for the first time in December 2005
Been an Alto Sax player for nearly a decade, but I got tired of the cut gums and found it hard to express myself. The bass just worked. Plus, it was a display model and only cost me ~$100AU
I've been playing through whatever amp I can get my hands on. Until recently, most of my money went into this thingo:
Serious G.A.S. Sadly, it was written off in an accident a month ago. Which left me with enough money to begin my tone pursuit. After searching through stores, I couldn't find an affordable amp that did what I wanted or gave me the control I needed. So I just started building one. In fact, it should be finished early next month. Its basically a modified power stage mounted in a 3-unit rack and a single rack containing pre-amp and effects (and later on, a tube preamp stage). But no piccies yet, as the power stage is with a mate for the High-Voltage bits.
At the moment, I have an Ibby RD300:

It feeds into a bastardised 15W Peavey, which I've connected to my Behringer 410
:
Had a 100W something-or-other, but it decided to blow a cap, and is unplayable because I get 60Hz power noise through the speaker.
But thats cool, since the Peavey still lets me get some semblance of tone for practice, and everyone at uni is too busy at the moment to jam.
Anyway, this site has already shown me a lot. Given that I'm going to have a lot of spare time in the next month, I've been lining up a set of strings and pickups and I'm looking through stores for another bass to defret. Once I finish that amp, of course
That's all from me for now!
