Gear left at Venue - There when you went back?

About 2 years ago I had a lead dispossessed from me at a gig with about 8 other bands. After 6 months I tracked down who had it, and another 8 months later it was back with me. And it was broken.

I also left my bass stand at a club by accident one night. My band's drummer went to see if it was still there a few days later on his bike after work; it was, and he took it outside, unlocked his bike and rode off, without the stand! He realised after about 30 seconds, cycled back, and found it had already been taken.

I played a private corporate party once at the Hotel Continental in Addison, TX (suburb of Dallas)...after the gig I packed up, and rolled my stuff to a side door to load up...went to my truck, and drove off (completely spacing out my gear)...Got home (about 30 minutes away) and realized what I had done...drove back like a maniac, and there it all sat right where I left it, right beside the hotel in a busy parking lot. A Mesa 4x10, Ashdown 500 head, Pedaltrain board, gig bag full of stuff, and two Spector US Bolt-ons...I feel fortunate...

I agreed sight unseen to back up a guitarist at a pub one night here in downtown Charlotte. Had only met him through CL and texting - hey, an adventure; after all he said he had 12 yrs experience. He seemed OK in the texts, but as I approached the pub the texts were growing more stressed; was I coming, was I going to be on time. I answer I'm parked out front. I go inside and after introducing myself to a number of the wrong people, realize he's not there. Hmm... After a while after he pulls up out front - he's made a run to Sam Ash to buy some more stuff. He comes inside and looks at his gear in the corner with a blank look on his face - how did it get there? An aquaintence who lives upstairs in the building comes up and tells him he found all the gear on the sidewalk out front, city street, and brought it in the bar - new twin reverb amp, two guitars, etc.

Turned out to be the guitarists first night out and he was so wound up he never even remembered where he left his gear. It became even more evident as he got himself tangled up in his new cables, stomp boxes, etc. I just sat there set up waiting for it to stop, but, it didn't.........he says just play something!

Wow, I hope you're playing with this guy on a regular basis now so that we can get more stories of your gigs together!

We've left cymbals and whatnot at a gig before. We usually just call the club and they'll find it and hold on to it. Thank goodness for awesome club owners.

12 years experience at what?

I think if you had asked him to send you a set list, it may have prevented a bid waste of your time.

But then, we wouldn't have your story to make us laugh!

Maybe he said he had 12 years experience because he was 12 years old.
