Geddy Lee Amplification

This is a link to a video of Rush on the Colbert Report. At the end, Rush plays Tom Sawyer.

I realize that Geddy normally does not use amplification at Rush concerts, however in this video he does.

The camera makes it difficult to see the amp he uses here, so I was hoping one of you geniuses could identify what hes using here. His amps are on the right with the 2 lights (blue and red) on his two amp heads. I do not have enough knowledge of bass amplification to identify them.

It would be a big help. I'm in constant search of ways to improve my tone, and I really love Geddy's. His choice of amplifiers might offer insight into ways to help me get that much closer to his tone.

I think it might be Gallien-Krueger, but can't be sure.

Alex has a stack of Hughes & Kettners behind him with the MKII Heads.

After doing some research I'm 80% sure it's Gallien-Krueger.

No clue about the cabinets.

There's also the off chance I'm totally wrong and those are keyboard amps. Don't think so though.

Those are not 800RB's or GK's for that matter.

I have a feeling that Geddy is still going direct, listening to the song with headphones it sounds like his tone is really clean.

Those were just Alex's H&K Amps with electrical tape to cover the logo, Geddy still uses a rackmount setup and those were there to simply fill in the empty space behind him, the room is too small to bring his chicken rotisseries in.

I want to know how he was doing the bass tracks at the same time playing the keyboards? Was he using his unit or was there a little lip syncing going on here? There's greatness but I possibly think this was just more TV magic. BOB

oh how I wish Geddy would bust out a wall of 8x10's and old SVT's. I think it would help his tone immensely. The last few tours I havent been crazy about his live tone.

The amps behind Geddy are definitely just another set of Alex's guitar amps. One identical stack is behind Alex. Alex uses three or four stacks of them live on tour.

Probably just put one set behind Geddy so the stage didn't look lop-sided for the TV show appearance. Note that they're not even turned on, while Alex's side is powered up.

That was awesome until Colbert made a tool of himself at the end.

I really wish he'd go back the biamped Sunn/Ampeg and Ric from Caress of Steel. Fountain of Lamneth = greatest bass tone ever recorded.

If I am notmistaken he runs a couple of channels into the house. The first is a DI out of the Sansamp, and the other is from a rig he has under the stage. The rig, if I recall correctly, was a Sansamp into a Trace Elliot Power Amp into a 410. The mic is in the port to get a semblance of air movement.

Depends on the band, if the singer happens to be the bassist then yes you see more of him obviously, but if not, then no.
