I love playing those two, they're really fun. I wonder why he stopped using the thumb.

He used to incorporate his thumb into playing as well, ie Force Ten and Turn the Page.

Did he use his thumb? I get the feeling that he just used his index finger for everything on those riffs. I think he often looks like he's using his thumb when he's actually just moving it around/repositioning it. I feel like he uses mostly his index and middle fingers. Haven't studied his style hardcore, but I can replicate it pretty durn well, and it works for me.
