Geddy Lee J = Impressive!

I'm about the same place, SurferJoe. My band is surf and classic rock, and much of the past 20 years in popular music is unknown to me. Been too busy making a living to follow it, when much of what I heard didn't appeal...and I took a 23-year layoff from bass, 1973-1996. I pick up bits and pieces of music here and there, but at present I'm more interested in blues and its direct derivatives than I am in wailing teenagers. I watched part of American Idol once and that was enough to send me back to my Doors, SRV and Santana albums.

I'm moving more towards the Motown sound with thump-y bass and no brassiness or slap/pop. That's why I got a set of Roto 77s today for that nasty-sounding P Bass I have, but that's another story.

I still play a lot of surf and SVR, but also a lot of what I call "Roadhouse Blues" (see my Bugs Henderson link).

Just today I was playing LA Woman and Break On Through by The Doors. Funny how really great the bass lines were and I never even noticed it back when.

One of my oldie favs is The Eagles, and just about anything they do too.Smits can really sit in the groove and just make the songs swell.
