Geddy Lee Sansamp Pedal!

I’ve been reading many posts in this thread, but admittedly not all of them.

Is there a consensus on whether this pedal plays well with active basses?

It seems just fine with my two Stingrays and my active Jazz.

I find I do have to change the settings (especially the master knob) as I switch between active and passives basses.

I'd love it if they came out with programmable YYZ to save/recall settings.

The YYZ sounds great with P-Basses :hyper::hyper:

Okay, since Iv@n posted with a Pbass, here are my samples as well. I didn't really get into the drive knob with settings below noon, as I was mainly trying to show the max gain settings, per @HeavyFingers question about the more extreme settings. But, these were also recorded with my Pbass with Flats, to show what it would sound like with something at the other end of the spectrum from a Jazz bass with steel strings. :)

I’m very interested in this pedal. Help me out bass people....

Another area of concern I’ve heard is that it cannot properly feed a power amp. Anemic output complaints.

Any truth to this as a general problem with the pedal? I rarely go direct with my setup.

I primarily use mine with Spector bass with hot preamps 1 Aguilar OBP 1 SNC HAZ clone and Active EMGs as well as a Dingwall NG-2 with the 18volt darkglass tone capsule. Sounds fantastic with all of them. Sounds great with my passive P bass as well ! :-)

I can’t say about feeding a power amp as I use mine first in the chain of other pedals. It doesn’t strike me as being low output but I haven’t tried directly into a power amp. It’s great pedal highly recommended

The YYZ into the Sheehan sounds fantastic for those times I want a ridiculous amount of grindy distortion (which has only happened in bedroom jamming so far). It's really delicious. But yes, it could replace the BDI21 no doubt.

Hey @Gefilter1001 , question for you. I have and love the YYZ pedal. But, long story short, I'm considering selling off my pedalboard and returning to my rack setup. If I love the YYZ pedal, particularly with the tight switch engaged, would I also love the 2112 rackmount version? It would probably run in the effects loop of my Demeter pre. And I'd either to the internal jumper mod or use the jumper cable so that the two sides can be blended. Thanks.

Both the GED-2112 and DI-2112 are VERY lovable...if you dig the YYZ, it's a natural progression with added functionality.

The GED version doesn’t have the tight switch though, not sure I could live without that.

Great info! I also play primarily Spectors (and Stingrays). Same types of hot pre amps and active pups.

I really like the Geddy sound, but I’m more of a Tool, AIC, Queensryche, RATM, Metallica, Iron Maiden type of tone seeker.

What kinds of tones are you looking to get from the YYZ for your Spectors?

You just pretty much just named my gold standard all star list for bass tone.

I use the YYZ first as an always one tone shaper that adds a slight grit and extra punch to the sound. Think the cleaner side of TOOL that’s a blend of his clean GK amp and his Rat driven GK head. Down the chain I have a Darkglass Alpha Omega & B3k set to add more all out dirt as needed.
Set differently the YYZ on its own can get you into the grittier end of TOOL / AIC quite well I just need to be able to Footswitch between clean (ish) dirtier and even dirtier.
I played around a lot with different pedal order and settings for my rig anyway the yyz first set for a mild grit just makes everything down the line sound better.
I should mention the yyz also responds really well to dynamics so play lighter or roll volume back slightly and it really cleans up well dig in harder and it breaks up more and if on drives the other pedals harder.

Try the Alpha Omega into the YYZ! With both switches down (I usually have the growl engaged when solo, but it's too much bite when stacked), I've found my favourite dirt pedal to drive into the YYZ.

I use mine for extra punch and a touch of grit as well. If I need more grit, I have a foot switch hooked up the the drive channel on my Genzler MG800 amp. I usually run the YYZ into a compressor then to the amp.

Thanks for the samples. They sound great, and confirm what I already love about the pedal. Deep side blended in with the tight switch engaged sounds awesome to me. But you got a lot of other sounds that I also really liked as well. Not to mention the fact that your straight bass tone sounds awesome! Those Dunlop flats sound great. Not to derail the thread, but I just tried Chromes for the first time on my 5 and really like them, but this makes me want to check out some of those Dunlops.

Thanks! Glad you like the samples as well. The YYZ definitely sounded great for those samples, and that's even without any EQ adjustments!

Thanks for the positive words on my clean sound as well! I've also been quite impressed with the Dunlop flats. Not to get too deep into it, but I've tried Chromes (back and forth with Nickel rounds twice) and GHS Precision flats (also twice), and had a brief escapade with Labella flats. I definitely like the Dunlop flats the best. Of the flats I've tried, they've been the most modern sounding and have the best tension/feel. I don't think they're fully broken in yet, so they'll probably mellow a bit, but reports indicate they're more modern sounding than other flats even once fully broken in.

If you're thinking about checking them out further, this thread convinced me to try the Dunlops over the Cobalt flats which I was also considering (and may still try in the future on a bored day. lol). I also have some more clean bass samples there as well: Dunlop Flatwounds
