Hey, how come Feedback isn't up there? Do we not count that? Sorry, I only have a passing interest in Rush these days, and I don't know what established protocol for Rush nerds is.

:D

I think he just wanted to cover the studio albums. Otherwise you'd have to include Feedback, and all the live albums. Then the list is just a bit too big.

As much as I love the Ric tracks on Signals and the killer Jazz sound on Clockwork Angels, I had to vote for Farewell to Kings just for Cinderella Man...but then I accidentally hit Hemispheres and can't change my vote. Which is also a fantastic Rickenbacker-sounding album, too, especially Circumstances, which is one of my all-time favorite Rush songs.

Jimmy, first of all I'm surprised to see you here on a Rush thread! ;)
Secondly, Feedback is not the typical prog rock album, so it probably interest more guys like you who likes blues and rock- blues fans.

Even I have a couple of Ampeg products I don't like ;)

But let's face it...most people aren't real Rush fans. And those are the two albums that I believe sold best, or at least, have the most staying power with the civilians.

I don't want to start a big argument, but what qualifies someone as a "real" Rush fan?

Polls don't show up on the iPhone app, but I'll be voting Clockwork Angels or Vapor Trails. I really like the overdriven Jazz tone. Plus, there's a very nice remix of Vapor Trails you can find through torrents.

Funny you should ask! First and foremost, "real" Rush fans don't download their music from Torrents!!

I'm pretty sure that if I was anything less than a "real" Rush fan, I would've had my citizenship stripped and I would've been exiled to Elba like Napoleon long ago. Lol.

And using torrents to download something that cannot be purchased certainly doesn't make anyone any less of a "real" fan.... how do you think most people acquire bootlegs in this digital age?

LOL...like saying "I smoke pot because everybody else does." Or "I drive drunk because, ..." well you get the point.

I don't download Rush's music (or anybody else's) because I am a fellow musician and artist, and DO NOT ripoff other artists. ESPECIALLY those I truly respect, like Rush.

I can't find the interview, but Alex Lifeson nailed it in an interview some years back. To paraphrase (loosely): "It has nothing to do with money, but with respect. If people download our music instead of acquiring legally through the proper channels, it could wipe us off the planet. Completely eliminate our existence." I will never forget that.

But, I know this won't slow you down. I'll let you get back to the Torrents. :spit:

My question is how anyone could take Ged's tone past 1982 and put it before anything from 2112 to Signals. I voted for Signals because it was the last remnant of his sacred Rick/Jazz tones before things got real wonky.

Pretty much agree, although the Wal was pretty kickass. And at times, the Jazz is truly sweet. A little overdriven lately, but sweet tones at times for sure.

Question: How was he getting his jazz to overdrive BEFORE the Sansamp? I.e. on YYZ...THAT was some sweet overdrive. :bassist:
