Geddy USA and Tom Brantley Rewinds

I have one of the Geddy Lee USA Jazz basses and absolutely love it. I have read somewhere however that the pickups Fender used for these basses is an emulation of the Tom Brantley rewind pickups. Does anyone know if it has the real deal? I'm wondering if it's worth it to grab some to put in it.

If the stock pickups are copies of the Brantley Rewinds, what will be gained by a switch?

I'd be curious to know about the design of these pickups and if they are indeed emulations. But I certainly don't have any complaints about them!

My Tom Brantley pickups arrived today and I put them in my USA Geddy Jazz. All I can say is wow - they're everything I hoped for. Extra bottom end and more twang than the ones Fender uses on the signature bass. If anyone has been on the fence about getting these, they're totally worth it.

Definitely dig #3 the best.

I’m having Tom Brantley rewind/repair my ‘82 Schecter tapped P PU. I tried for a long time to find someone to do it. Seymour Duncan tried and failed twice to make me replacements. I have complete faith that Brantley will do the job.
They are also making me a set of tapped J PU’s.

Just sent Tom my ducats for a set this AM... for the 2007 MIJ GL that arrived yesterday! The stock pu's would probably be fine, but I found out about Tom's custom sets while I was researching the purchase of bass and figured if it's good enough for Geddy, why the heck not! That linked sound cloud reference audio seals the deal for me... I'm excited!

Also, FYI, replacing the fender tuners with Hipshot HB2s and BT2 Xtender, and the ubiquitous Dunlop strap buttons that go on every bass that's unfortunate enough to visit my house Like the PU's I'm sure they're fine, but the hipshot tuners are just SO much nicer and more solid feeling.

crazy good. A punchier low end than the stock in the MIJ. totally worth it!

Funny enough, I have a set in my FGN Neo Classic "Geddyzilla" Jazz bass.... Pickups sound great but honestly didn't sound THAT different from the stock FGN pickups (their stuff is really good out of the box IMO). Not complaining though, definitely not a bad thing and those pickup aren't going anywhere!

I received my custom order and the repaired P PU the other day. The repair on the P PU was perfect. And I'm still waiting for the body to put the J tapped set in. But here are pictures for reference. They are very nice, I can hardly wait!

I just found this thread in a search and I wanted to put my two thumbs up for the Brantley pickups. I don't have a USA Geddy, but I did just recently acquire a CIJ model and replaced the stock pups with the Brantley's. However, I will say that the stock set from this era is no slouch and does a pretty good job getting the Geddy tone. They will for sure end up in another bass of mine down the road. Tom's pickups just do it better with more clean everything all around with a noticeable (and good) bump in the low end. I'd say they're worth the $150 price tag!

I have a geddy lee usa fender jazz and got my tom brantley pickups abut haven't installed them yet...how much better are they than the usa geddy lee jazz bass pickups? is there really a sound difference?
