I love this idea. I’ve often thought of cramming my favorite preamp pedals into the spacious cavity under the pickguard, but now seeing the UA inside seems awesome.

Sloppy design and shoddy refinish not withstanding, that thing at least looks super cool. Ditto the idea of a tube pre IN the bass!!!I definitely get weird ideas, frequently involving tubes. I already did it once with a sloppily designed preamp and a shoddily refinished Squier body, but this time around I want to fix everything I didn't like about the last design. More carefully designed preamp, much nicer body, and more carefully thought-out placement of cavities. The last one was fine, but I want better than fine.

Good luck convincing one of the light crew to keep a follow spot on the bass.Solar panels on the face of the body and if it's an indoor show, the follow spot is on the bass and reeeeeally bright.![]()
Roasted woods are certainly "in" these days...Fascinating stuff! I have to ask, how much heat does the tube put out? Ive only ever owned one tube amp, and i seem to recall them getting really hot. Hot enough to slow!y cook the wood?
Power tubes certainly would, but preamp tubes don't put out much heat. I absolutely have, but my opinion is that at that point, why bother with an onboard preamp? I could put the whole preamp on the floor and use a nice shielded cable and get the same results. I like the idea of an all-in-one setup in case, for example, I want to use a wireless system, which I frequently do on the admittedly rare occasions I play live. All things considered, 6+ hours feels like a pretty good amount of charge and I'm happy with it, and I don't want to force the player (even if it's just me because I'm never planning to build these commercially) to be tethered to a proprietary box.Have you thought about running power to it though a special type of cable, maybe use the 3rd conductor in a TRS cable? Have a break-out near your amp to connect the power. I guess there's a chance you'll pick up noise in your audio signal, but a signal out of preamp should be less susceptible to noise.

The real reason I own three of these batteries instead of just oneThe potential stress of suddenly realizing the battery is flat 30 seconds before showtime is another one.
