Geezer Pickups

I recently installed a set of EMG Geezer pickups in my P bass. After playing it awhile I began to think I made a bad choice. They were a little too bright, not enough thump. Then, our band decided to have a rehearsal. The bass sounded perfect, everything I want was right there, just enough bottom just enough top and it cut through just right. It goes to show that the bedroom sound in your head may not be the best for the band.

I think one day I'll make a poll with a snippet of a track of mine with all instruments for reference and, say, three of the same section where I isolate the bass. One is the actual one as in the mix, the other two have been tweaked differently.

I guess it will be interesting lol.

Anyway, isolated basses on YouTube (the real tracks) are fun as well. Try listening to Bowie's Suffragette City isolated bass...

PBs get a bad reputation in some circles because they’re not that great a bass for soloing compared to some others. But put them in a mix or onstage with a live ensemble and they absolutely shine. Leo didn’t voice a PB be played alone all by itself. It wants to be in a group. Once you realize that, the brilliance of its tonal design makes perfect sense.
