You could always modify the bridge so the strings pass through the body, that way you can keep the saddles low without the whole thing starting to rattle.

I like thru-body stuff, but I'm trying to get close to the original, which lacked this feature.

But then again since you originally wanted to give it EMG pickups, you might want to bend the rules a bit. I'm sure Gene wouldn't have mind.

And you can always try it out with the test body before submitting the Mahogany one to that treatment.

me and my 1995 Les paul Studio, it's heavy but not quite as heavy as that genesis, I'm not kidding that guitar must have been twice that weight.

I don't know, it DOES have that "Gene" look to it, maybe if you gave it a white edge strip and fit a chrome bridge cover...

They didn't have that feature back in 1995, it's one big piece of solid mahogany here.

Oh and speaking of Les Pauls and heavy outhouses, check this out. I attended the Vintage fair in Veenendaal a few years ago when I came across this basket case Lester.

A real US-made Gibson Les Paul Standard and the first thing I noticed was that some frets were missing but when I looked a little closer.

Those are dowels, so I picked it up and turned it over and saw those dowels at the back of the guitar too and through the lacquer I saw the silent reminders of a very bad neck break. This guitar had been repaired by drilling right through the fingerboard and the body and dowels hammered in to keep it in place.

So I asked the seller how much he wanted, knowing that guitars with poor repairs go cheap but his asking price of a grand was way too steep for me.

I'm going to that same fair next weekend (Saturday the 23'd) and I wonder if this one will turn up again...

I know, easily the worst repair job I came across and believe me, I've seen a few.

It's a good thing that they route weight relief chambers in the newer les pauls, as that's a nice feature that was left out on my Cort les paul copy, it's a nice guitar, but it's almost as heavy as some of my basses.

I know what you mean I have a '92 Les Paul standard and if I remember right it weighs 13lbs glad I don't play guitar.

i had to let it go
