I'm just going to leave it as is. As far as the straps go, I found some oversized strap pins that should work perfectly. Placing the pins in the wrong place will just bother me.

It will be weird going sans straplocks...

I know what you mean about straplocks. I had a bass come off during a party once and the headstock hit the floor and slightly bent the D tuner. Of course I had both fists in the air pumping up the crowd when it happened. If I had had a hand on the bass it might not have hit the ground. Since then, I have always put them on.

The only bass i have strap locks on is my epiphone thunderbird goth series. But i've moved the upper strap pin just a lil bit and i hang my bass low enough so it doesnt dive at all. Feels great obe able to let go of the most irritating bass and not have it dive !! :) But getting back to your set neck setting, it is true that no one will see unless you show it. @nd, if you have enough contact between neck and body you're fine.

+1...& with a washer instead of straplocks or eyebolts.
I never saw straplocks in the 70's, and the washer and a regular strap pin will keep it pretty low profile...or you can just use a washer and a screw without the pin.

This is the strings on the bass. I now see why this pickup is made for the end if the neck heel. Notice where the strings fall.

Yeah, you may need to cut the neck pocket a hair deeper, you wont need much, no more than 1 1/6. Those outside saddles are pretty high, so the A and D string saddles will be even higher to compensate for the radius.

I wouldn't worry about it much. If it worked for gene, it'll work for you. Also, if you've seen the gibson RD Krist Novoselic bass model, they used jazz bassline pieckups and the strings aren't all in between the pole pieces. But there's still plenty of response to it. Picture isn't mine. It's another talkbasser's RD. TBird58 :D

yeah I wouldn't worry about pole pieces lining up. I have a 5 string(converted 4 string) with a single Pbass pickup. And the A string runs along the edge of the 2 sections, and it picks up the sound of it with no problem. You will have no issues with the pole pieces.

Yeah that added picture looks better for clearance. Better to have a bit extra than not enough though. And there is the truss rod access to think about also.

You could add a shim under the bridge if you need more clearance. That wouldn't require any alterations to what you have. Easily made, and is easily reversible/removable.

Devil's OCD advocate here. I wouldn't be able to take the pole/string misalignment. After putting this much thought/work and planning into this bass, that's going to eat at you every time you try to show it to someone.
I would deviate from the original, and get a hipshot A bridge. That will give you a little more height with out routing more for the clearance AND allow you to adjust the saddles to line up with the poles on the pickups.
I would much rather tell someone I put a more modern bridge on it (which you should be able to still cover), than have those strings not line up...

I have heard of people using the gloche (spelling?) beer bottle rubber gaskets for strap locks. put your strap on then the gaskets. the gaskets can come off with out removing
the screws to get washers off. I have used the washer method though and works. Even with the extra large strap buttons it still worries me about the possibility of the strap coming of after you put this much work into the build. Anyways I have spent hours catching up on your build and it looks great!!!

I think you just slide the gaskets over top of the strap after you first put the strap on.

I have strap locks on most of my basses. The two I don't are my GS Axe bass and my American Standard Jazz. Thinking of trying this method, plus I get to try a new beer!!! LOL

Man Bassgod has come a long way and is doing a great job!!! Was here at the beging but access to the interwebs is limited for me right now so I was up to 2:30 am catching up on the build!!
