Granted this is not a complicated bassline by any means, but it fits the song perfectly and is very melodic, and Gene spices it up a bit with some of the improvising he does during this performance of it. I feel like this dude is pretty underrated (in the class of classic hard rock bassists).

Well, hang on, are you serious about him playing too loud? This is obviously an audience phone video shot form right in front of Gene's amp. That's not the FOH mix or anything.

Nope. That's the mix. I was at that concert. You couldn't hear anything but bass. I even managed to get over to the soundboard and talk with one of the guys. They said, "That's the way Gene wants it. And he and Paul call all the shots." Told him it sounded horrible, and he said he kinda liked liked. I think Paul had a throat problem that night or something. They wanted to compensate. I shrugged, they told me to enjoy the rest of the show.

Lame, I know, but I couldn't resist.

yeah where they're recording from it right near the bass monitor. Gene is very underated he's def gotten better with age and experience,i mean after ll who wouldn't after 40 years of the same songs.at this point its all muscle memory and timing. Gene I always thought was a decent bassist for a person whos all about the fame and fortune. At the same time compared to other bassist and his improvs areent that impressive considering how long hes been playing.
