Generic cabinet and neo speakers

I think I'd rather have the $75 for a few pints!! I wouldn't care about the weight then! LOL

I neglected to say that I also bought a matching 15" cabinet and the $75 was for two neo speakers. The way I see it, a few pints will give you a slight buzz for a while, then in a few hours it's sent down the toilet, where dropping 9 pounds saves my back for as long as I own the rig. Also, I never drank, sparkling water is my libation of choice.

Neo drivers only shave 5 to 12 pounds depending on application or driver

Real reduction is with the wood which can actually shave more.

Agreed , some people don't care about the weight 1x12 is a 1x12, 8x10 is a 8x10

Staying in the game is a good thing, old thread here, but isn't the whole enclosure correctness often taken to a point that is simply based upon getting whatever the highest performance THEORETICALLY possible out of a particular driver REGARDLESS OF THE SOUND?
These old Peavey cabs sound great with everything I have tried, Scorpions, BW,,,'s, EV, Pioneer (it wasn't me...,) JBL E140's. In practice, it seems you have to go to extremes rather than nuances to really have problems.

It depends on how hard you plan on driving the speakers. It can be a big problem or it can work “ok”. If you are really lucky it might work pretty good.

We do see what happens when a random speaker is stuck in a box here on TalkBass, often ends poorly.

One observation is that if you take random speakers and put them in a random box, you are now faced with the need to do all the research and development that is done by the designers of a good branded cabinet.

This includes port tuning, which if you get badly wrong may make the driver vulnerable to damage at higher volumes, and internal damping, which to my ears makes a vast difference to the tone.

Having been there myself I suggest that it's very easy to underestimate how much work and hassle this all is, and it's many times harder without the facilities a professional workshop will have.

@BassmanPaul was and still is to many of us a very respectable Musician and Amp Technician with a very long and successful career in both.
His not being online in this particular website anymore does not change the wisdom and helpfulness of Mr. Paul's legacy here.
You may not agree with someone's post here but their online status does not mean they quit life.

It would also lead to this mistake.
You joined TB in 2016, I did in 2014, I must be a better/more seasoned player do to being online before you???
Lets not forget Post and especially Likes count, that is how you truly know one is more superior.

And both of us sure as heck are better than them that joined TB last year. Doe not mater they have been the house Bassist for the Grand Ole Opry for 20+ years. They are new TB members.

Hey... Those last few extreme examples I have read here on TB.

TalkBass status has nothing to do with real life achievements, just how and when we decided to have more or less computer time.
