Generic cabinet and neo speakers

Neodymium speakers are nothing new, and just about every major (and some minor) equipment vendor have offered them in their cabinets.
There are also some here who have replaced their original speakers with neodymium in an effort to reduce overall weight. The trick is to find neodymium speakers with the same (or very close) Thiele-Small parameters as the originals so that they will work well with the cabinet design.

I'm not sure what is meant by a "generic cabinet". If you mean one of those things you pick up from the back of a white van, good luck getting anything installed in it to sound good.
If you mean something prefabbed like the one below, you would need to work backwards using the cabinet dimensions to see if the neodymium speaker of your choice would work well in it. You could also ask the seller if they have recommended neodymium speakers compatible with their product.

Yes, per the suggestion by @treyandres, I swapped the EV Pros w/ Deltalite 12's in my MojoTone 212 cab. Saved about 20lbs which makes it easier to transport and it sounds just as monstrous as it did before.

For the price of that box plus shipping plus speakers, a person could buy a high end used cab, I cannot understand why someone would do that other than just wanting to tinker around.

Good luck with that idea. Most people design a cabinet around the specifications of the driver. But you might get lucky.

Just remember most manufacturers of Bass cabinets, get proprietary designed drivers from speaker manufacturers they deal with. And they are many times drivers the general public can't buy separately. Even folks like Schroeder Cabinets have special designed drivers. I think B&C is supplying all Schroeder speakers these days. The new Bergantino Neo drivers come from Celestion, and are a new special designed Neo created by Jim and Celestion. And those drivers are only available to Berg.

But, can you match some speaker enclosure to a certain speaker, probably so. But takes a little more than just finding an inexpensive NEO and dropping it into some random cabinet.

Other things like port size and even port length has dramatic effects. And even the amount of internal acoustical padding can do a lot.

To get a exact alignment for a specific driver. Then yes the box would be specific size and tuning.

In reality there isn't a huge difference between pro audio drivers that work specifically for bass. And likewise most builders don't use exact alignments.

Most the weight of cabinets isn't the driver. It's the wood. Only way to lighten them is use thinner wood. Typical method is to not use 3/4 ply and use 1/2 ply for approximately 20 to 30% weight reduction.

Tradeoff is thinner ply flexes more and reduces overall contact area for joints.
So you have to improve bracing and joints.

I know people are obsessed with
" magical " boxes. Reality is appropriate box volumes for pro sound drivers has been well known for many years.

Box volume is a trade-off between a flat response ( larger) or more power handling ( smaller) and there is a reasonable amounts of sizes can be applied to all drivers.

In a way there is yes the need to know driver specifics. Some do better in smaller boxes than others. Likewise box tune is related to Fs or resonant frequency of drivers. But again bass specific drivers are very similar within 5 to 10hz for specific cone sizes.

15" = 2.8 to 4 cubic feet 30 to 45hz Fs
12" = 1.6 to 2.4 cubic feet 35 to 55hz Fs
10" = .8 to 1.4 cubic feet 40 to 65hz Fs

Always expections for very few. So plenty room for people to argue. Have fun...don't care.

Answer is yes you have a typical bass cab. Then yes anywhere from 2 to 10 or more drivers will drop right in and be fine.
Neo and ceramic. And the box will still be
" magical"

A few years ago i ordered a Carvin MB15 direct from Carvin San Diego. It comes with a standard 15" speaker. I asked if it would be OK if I replaced it with a neo, he said they have a neo in stock and can install that for $75 more. I went for it, sounds great and compared to the standard spec weight, it's about 4.5 pounds lighter.

I think I'd rather have the $75 for a few pints!! I wouldn't care about the weight then! LOL
