I just got a gently used set of Genssler Wraps from a fellow TBer, and I have a couple of questions. First, in general, should I make new maps every time I experiment with different strings? Second, my best maps have been made arco. These things suck arco. They're good enough for my daily vomit, scale, and intonation practice which, aside from the occasional final note on a tune, is all the arco I do these days. Should I go ahead and use the bow for some maps, or just make them pizz only? I'm hoping someone has some experience here and can save me some time. The only thing I dislike about the Dex is making maps, which I find quixotic and tedious.

Double Bass Gensslers and Tonedexter?

From my experience, and from comments elsewhere on Talkbass, it’s not necessary to remap your Tonedexter when you change strings.
What matters is the relationship of the piezo pickup to the bass, and the acoustic dimensions of the bass itself. The Tonedexter’s algorithms compensate nicely around the tonal quality of the strings themselves.
On my Chapman Folding Bass and Tonedexter combo, I’ve tried Spiros, Bel Cantos, Helicores, Evahs and back to Spiros. Remapping in each of those instances didn’t seem to make much of a difference.
