Genz Benz GBE750

How many people have had experience of the GBE series heads? I'm thinking of getting a GBE 750. What's the verdict? Anyone got a comparison with GK RB series?

If you need 2ohm operation, it is a solid performer. If you are fine with 4ohm minimum, the Shuttle Max 6 would be a much better option... smaller, a fraction of the weight, hundreds of dollars less, same front end, pretty much the same output into 4ohms.

Actually, if you have a 2ohm requirement, I would choose the Shuttle Max 12 over the 750 also... much more powerful, much lighter, and less dollars (and with two power amps, it can drive the beejeebers out of two 4ohm cabs).

I have not owned a 750.. I have a 1200 and it slams..
The 1200 and 750 have the same exact front end.. and it is nothing at all like the front end of the shuttle 6, Different animals.
The 1200 though is similar to using a separate preamp and poweramp rig. mean that in a good way. I would assume the 750 would be similar.. The poweramp section is robust with plenty of headroom and protection.
The preamp section is very well thought out and designed. IMO.. i wish they made a Preamp only for the folks that use the GBE pre into a myriad of poweramps.
I have a shuttle 6 and shuttle Max12... I was told by a friend that the GBE750 is just slightly louder than the Shuttle6.. And the S6 does just about all i need.. if i need more i use my SM12..
But the EQ features and power of the 750 should cover just about any gig, and do it for years to come.
As someone said above. the 750 is ready for 2 ohms but the shuttle 6 is good for 4.... if you needed 2 ohms in a light weight form factor go with the SM12.

But the GBE750 /GBE1200 front end is glorious!

It seems, as the Shuttle Max 12 is to the GBE1200, the Shuttle Max 6 is to the GBE750. While the GBE1200 still seems to have a 'reason for being' (i.e., big output into a single 4ohm cab or two large 8ohm cabs), the GBE750 seems to be mostly covered by the Shuttle Max 6 (or the Shuttle Max 12 if you need the equivalent of 2ohm operation... i.e., multiple 4ohm cabs).

That Shuttle Max 6 is a great spec for those who want the EQ power of the GBE750, multiple pre's etc. It's about the same power into 4ohms, a fraction of the weight, 2'3rds the size, and a few hundred dollars less.

the 750 front end is different than the Shuttle 6 or SM12 all together. Similar in that it has 2 channels Tube/FET.
The Shuttle 6 is more similar to the Neopak 3.5.
And both shuttle have Semi Para Mids where the Gbe750/1200s have a shelving type EQ.
The GBE series and Shuttle MAX have similar Global Eq sections in that the 3 Freq sections are able to be ajdjusted where the S6 has a preset , and only on or off. I just used my S6 last night and loved it through my Bag End cabs.

That is true.
And i love the fraction of the weight too..
I finally got on board with what you were talking about when you went lightweight...and the SM12 was my conversion point...
I broke mine last week..:bawl: i dropped it but grabbed the cable as it was going to the ground and ripped out the input jack from the PC board.. I have to send it in for repair this week... just havent had time to get a box..
But the 12 is the cats meow for me...

I have used and owned a GBE600, RB1001II.
Feels like hey are both loud enough.
The GBE has 2 killer channels, dirty and clean, or FET and Tube is you will.
The 1001II

With EQ flat the GBE has a more high fi/modern tone IMO. But the EQ makes it versatile. Hmmm. I have a shuttlemax 12.0, do you want to buy my GBE600 :D
Both are great heads. But the GBE wins out with versatility, footswitch, and 2 ohm operation.

Just to clarify for the OP, the Shuttle Max 12 has '2ohm operation' capability also, since two separate power amps capable of each running at 4ohms gives you the identical capability of a monoblock head capable of running safely at 2ohms. Just FYI. I believe the Shuttle Max also has similar footswitching capabilities as the older GBE models.

My friend has a GBE600.. That is one of the nicest sounding amps that i have played... and its very loud for whatever the rated output is.. Very smooth sounding amp..
