Genz Benz Shuttle 3.0 - 8T Combo

I really like mine. I play folk music which is acoustic 99% of the time, and it sets in well. I can also use it for louder shows as long as they are not really that loud (coffee houses, small churches, etc). Sometimes I'll use it as a stage bass monitor in medium size gigs and run a line direct into the system. It makes a great recording amp and practice amp.
My next use of it is to power two Hartke Hydrive 12 inch cabs, which will give it an output of around 300 watts. Good for most larger venues I play.

I have a 3.0-10t here in my living room. Very portable and light, in contrast to my previous bass amps. It doesn't have the EQ capabilities of my Mesa/Boogie Walkabout, but then, neither does anything else. It's very useful for small venues, and I have a second 10t box when there's a drummer -- although in that situation I'm much more likely to take the M/B.

Can you attach a second cab to these?

Yes, using the speak-on output you can connect an 8 ohm extension cabinet. I suggest that you look at either the 8" or 10" Shuttle extension as they match up with the tuning of the cabinet of your combo.

I owned the 3.0/8t for a couple of months and actually played a couple gigs with a classic rock band using it as my onstage monitor. I would still own it but I had ordered a Genz Benz bag through my local store and they got one for the 10t by mistake. I traded it in for a 3.0/10t. The only downside was since the 8t is so small it doesn't have the built in kickstand like the bigger models do.

the 3.0-8T is one of the best amps I've ever owned because of its versatility. It has gotten a lot of work.

Like all the Genz Benz heads, it has an excellent DI out - so it's perfect for gigs where you just need a small stage monitor and you're also going through the PA.

I also throw it in the car as a backup for larger gigs. If God forbid your main head had a problem, you could sit this on top of a larger cab and use the extra Speakon out. You could go at 8 or 4 ohms depending (i.e., you can unplug the 8" speaker).

It's also a great amp for upright bass.

The comments about the 3.0-10T are all on point as well. That's a great amp too, and I have one. It does have the tilt back feature.

But for the size etc. - the 3.0-8T is very useful.

I've been thinking about doing this, just because these are what I have: Put my shuttle 3-10T combo on top of a TL 12 with a JBL K120, with the Shuttle angled upward. What do you think would result from such a set-up? Thanks!

If you use this cabinet with the Shuttle cabinet (or pretty much any other cabinet for that matter), you will need to be absolutely sure that the cabinet with the K-120 is wired for proper polarity. Originally, they were reversed compared to the rest of the current world, but you have to verify this on a speaker by speaker basis since there are some aftermarket kits with reverse wound voice coils (correcting the polarity problem), there are cabinets that have had the internal woring reversed (correcting the polarity problem) and lots of in betweens, hence the need to always test.

Using a 9v battery, the speaker cone should move outward with the positive terminal connected to the tip (or 1+ in the case of the SpeakOn).

I bought a second 10t to use with my 3.0-10t. This gives the amp a four ohm load, and raises output from 175w to 300. I have had no trouble with the drummer not hearing the bass, and the total weight is still quite low.

I realized at one point that my Mesa/Boogie Walkabout Scout amp could be pulled out of the cab and used with the G-B speakers, so I bought yet another 10t and stacked the M/B on top of two 10ts.

But I keep the G-B 3.0-10t in my living room for casual jams and for checking out basses. The Genz-Benz seems to reproduce the personality of the Precisions and StingRay5 that I play. The M/B setup gets the nod for gigs other than playing at church, because of the much more sophisticated EQ setup.

Thanks for pointing that out. When building the cabs I ensured all were of similar polarity, but the possible situation you described hadn't occurred to me.

Assuming they are of similar polarity, what about sonically? Would you anticipate a good pairing, or not? The centre port is blocked on the TL.

I had gigs both last night and tonight. Last night I took a bigger rig for a rock gig (Genz Benz Streamliner 900 into a 2x15 Bag End stack), but I took the 3.0-8T along as a backup. It could back up in several different ways given its versatility. Didn't need it, but it's easy just to put it in the car.

Tonight I had a jazz gig and used the Shuttle 3.0-10T with my '78 fretless P and a touch of reverb. It was a relatively small gig, but the Shuttle with the 10 delivered everything needed with headroom to spare. Here is a pic of this gear:

Agedhorse: You were right. The polarity of the JBLs is opposite to that of the GB. I was going to try using the 3.0 10T combo on top of a 12 for a pub gig this past weekend.
I wanted to move more air, and get the 10 up closer to my aged ears.
I didn't have time to make up a polarity reversed cable, so I just went with the combo and I was most pleasantly surprised. The little combo filled the 100+ seat room with rich bass with plenty of headroom to spare.
Amazing little amp! Lots of positive comments about the great bass sound from several musicians in the room.
Still want to try pairing it with that 12 though, just 'cause I can. :bassist:
