Yep, some people favored the LMII, some favored the Shuttle. It was pretty much split down the middle.

Very different tone, which the LMII being very full range, deep bass, and relatively flat voicing, and the Genz being much 'tighter and brighter'. The LMII sounds 'warmer' to me than even the 6.0 with the tube in it (by warmer, I mean a totally clean, wide deep low end, smooth mids, and a very sweet top end).

The 6.0 is a bit more 'apples to apples'. It's not really a fair fight with the little 3.0.

The new Shuttle Max 6.0 is closer to the performance and EQ power (it actually has VERY powerful tone options... variable filters, two channels, multiple semi-parametric mid bands, etc.) of the LMII (now LMIII) IMO.

I'd also like to add that the G.B. 3.0 and 6.0 heads sound VERY good... but ... IMHO ... they both have "very soft" 300 and 600 watt power sections.
I recently A/B-ed my old G.K. 800 head, (300 watts into 4 ohms), and a new G.B. 6.0. head, (600 watts into 4 ohms), into a 4 ohm G.B. Uber 410 cab.
The old G.K. 800 seemed to have more usable power!
Between the two heads you've mentioned, I'd lean towards the MarkBass LM II.
The LM II's sound very good, lots of power, seem to be very dependable, and are reasonably priced.
There's also been some very good used prices on LM II's in the T.B. classifieds recently.

I really want to try a GB Shuttle 6.0. I like the idea of having one paired with GB's 2x12 cabinet for an easy to transport, lightweight powerhouse.

But as for now I'm really happy with my MB LMII and the assorted Ampeg cabs I've been using with it.
