Hi all... I've been reading for a few hours now and this amp has captured my attention. Genz Benz shuttle 3.0 10t combo or 8t too. I play a 120yr german 1/2 size bass with a full circle pick up ..sometimes Azola bugbass. Live application is me with acoustic guitar. Most gigs are in a small space but do get a bit noisy. Also outside patio restaurant kind of stuff too. I need light compact but very good quality combo. I have GK 150 ( had it for a good 15 years now ) and more recently AI coda. I'm curious about the Genz Benz.. what da ya reckon? Recommendations?

Double Bass Genz Benz shuttle series...combo..looks neat

The Genz Benz Shuttle series are clear sounding and have a decent amount of power. If you are considering one I would lean towards the 10t. The 8t is very small and convenient, but doesn't have the low end extension you may need. Another combo that I would seriously consider is the Markbass Mini CMD121. It is very powerful and compact and sounds great with both Double Bass and Electric(EUB or Bass Guitar). It would have the power and headroom to play many venues.
I'm very happy with my 3.0 10T combo. I play with a low volume combo that has acoustic guitar, electric guitar, fiddle, and snare drum (w/ brushes). The Genz is PLENTY of volume for even a very large sized room.
I have little lighting case I carry it in that it fits perfectly, and has a little pouch on the outside i put the cables in.

I don't think you could go wrong with the Genz Benz. Although I don't own one, we use one at the Webster University Jazz Camp that belongs to the school. It's very lightweight, sounds good and has enough power for duos and trios. The pre amp on the GB Shuttle Series is very DB friendly. As Adrian mentioned I would go with the 10t combo because quite it's not as prone to problems with low notes.

Thanks everyone...definately good recommendations for the Genz Benz..the Mark Bass does look good too, but, I'm not so sure about a 12" speaker. I'm used to a 10" so I'd like to go with that. I'm going to try and find some audio samples of a bass with the genz...have you got any Johnny..you tube or what ever of your band?
I just did a youtube search..I couldn't find any bass players..only electric..but a good indication of size. You guys who play bass with it..has it a nice bottom end repoduction? I like it..
I have the Shuttle 3.0 - 8t. The 8" combo is plenty loud enough for my jazz ensemble work. It is super portable weighing 13.5 lbs. Great equipment
Although, I like the Markbass amps for EB I find IME that the Genz Benz has the advantage when you move to DB. The input impedance of the Markbass amps is 500 k ohms except for the Mark Acoustic Amp, so you have to add a buffer/preamp to the front end when using a piezo pickup. Markbass has those VLE and VPF that I don't find as useful with Double Bass. Generally, I turn them off. Genz Benz also uses FET's in their pre amp that contribute to a warm sounding tone.

Can't address the Shenandoah Compak, but would add to the praises about the shuttle. Almost bought a 3.0 10T because I love the clarity of 10s and it sounded great in the showroom, but I opted to get the 6.0 12T, which is the first 12 I had purchased. The main reason for going slightly larger (and more expen$ive) was that I double on electric (5 string) and was concerned about the 10's ability to reproduce fundamentals below E. It is the most excited and impressed I have been about amplification since I bought my first SWR amp & cabinet in 1987. If you play strictly upright in a duo setting, no drums, the 10 should be plenty - noy sure about the 8 though. The GB shuttle has a beautiful, articulate, warm sound that can be as flat or colored as you wish, and does it all in a light compact package - they are the bomb, imho.
I have the Shuttle 8" and love the sound but it won't keep up on outside applications or louder venues. I bought a 1-12" cabinet to go along with it and WOW! Everything seems to be covered. The head provides sufficient power for the job and sounds great.

Definately going for a 10..but am finding myself moving towards a wizzy. I don't live in a place where I can try out the different boxes and amps..so thankyou peoples..the info here is so helpful..
