I know what you mean about the wallop of the 1200...It's an absolute beast!!

To be honest, I haven't done a really good 1200/9.2 bake-off comparsion yet...I have talked about doing it, and will try to start that this week. It will be interesting to hear how the parametric mids section of the 9.2 differs from the 3-stage mids of the 1200...and to compare overall perceived volume at similar volume levels (through the same test cabinets...(ie I'll probably try this through an Uber 410 and a NEOX 212T, and possibly a couple of aggie 8ohm 210's).

Looks like I'm going to grab a Shuttlemax 12.0 for a good deal so its Shuttle vs Streamliner shootoff coming soon!
I can guarantee 1 thing: The Streamliner WILL be the best sounding amp in my bedroom, no doubt. I love it, its the best
BUT
How will it sound in the mix? My cab is NOT powering to the crowd, I'm going direct & those will be identical. The only thing that will matter is my backline tone

Cabs: GK Neo 115 or GK Neo 412 or Epifani NYC 310

That would be awesome - if you do get around to a bake-off, be sure to share with the group :) I think that you and I have fairly similar ears and tonal goals, so I'd be very interested in your perceptions.

I just received a new GB Shuttlmax bag last week and I'm OK with it. It's not the most sturdy or protective bag but I baby my gear anyway. I mainly want it to prevent scratches on the unit.
I had one one of the earlier GB bags and it was such a tight fit that I didn't really care for it. The new one is a bit looser and the amp is much easier to get in and out of the bag.

BAM !!! I got it ! Ken from NH was a FANTASTIC dude !
I played the Shuttlemax for seriously 30 seconds & could tell its absolutely fantastic already !

I'm going to FIGHT whoever outed me from Seattle! SHOW YOURSELF!! Great deal Ken had eh?

BTW - I have the GB Bag for the MAX 6.0. it is not especially heavy-duty, but does the trick. Mine came with the amp from the shop. It is a handy way to keep the footswitch, power cable, and such together.

I found a bag that is WAY better than the Genz Benz bag, but it is more than twice the price, $129 usd. The GigSkinz Serato fits the 9.2 very well and is very well padded. It also has plenty of pockets for storage. I will get some pics posted for those interested. I really like the bag and I am one of the more pickey people on the planet.

The Shuttlemax 12.0 is a FANTASTIC amp. I like it a lot
2 channels? Awesome, love switching. Clean, hi fi

Footswitch: No Mute? Bogus! Really a downer. Midscoop is powerful. The low & high freq attack is more subtle buts thats cool.

I have an Eden Navigator which has a footswitch with a Mute, Enhance (Sort of a midscoop) & a Turbo Boost, that turbo boost is a ridiculous jump in volume, unusable so its nice to see the volume be even & controlled on the GB but the mute I'll miss.

Vs. the Streamliner?
I was surprised at how much bigger it was. Its a pretty big amp, definitely not a microhead... I consider the Streamliner a big microhead (Fits right into a laptop bag). The Shuttlemax 12.0 pretty much begs for a rack. The portability factor is a big edge to the Streamliner.
Tone. Its just different. Its like a P bass or a Jazz. Depends on the mood with none better than the other. Enya or Megadeath? Awesome warmth vs Very clean & hi-fi. The amps can't go into each others territory well. The Streamliner CAN do hi fi clean but not like the Shuttlemax, the Shuttlemax can't come close to the warmth of the Streamliner.

No footswitch for the Streamliner = bogus man! Even just a mute & enhance would be nice.

Which one wins out to ME? Streamliner 900, I just think its so unique. I have a few amps that can sound like the Shuttlemax. Not nearly as well but its close. The Streamliner sounds like nothing I've found BUT its like asking J bass vs P bass. I love both & I'm keeping both.

The Shuttlemax is probably the best SS head I've come across. Better than my Eden Nav, Sansamp RBI, GK 1001 RB, Little Mark Tube.


No footswitch with the Streamliner is a negative.

Yes the Streamliner is a Beauty... And the Shuttlemax12 is my main amp for when i travel now since i usually drive two 4 ohm cabs... Im taking it with me on an outdoor festival tour of Europe in a 3 weeks. Backlined two 810s per gig. So the SM12 will handle that...
Both amps are bulletproof.. and i have run them both at their Min. loads, Loudly at outdoor gigs with ambient air of 100+ degrees.. And both amps are flawless.. And i have some time on my SM12 too... Its scratched up but it still kicks butt....
My buddy just bought a SM9.2.. man that is a killer amp too.... For anyone that need flexibility and needs to morph different sounds for different gigs from jazz combos to rock gigs the SM series pretty much handles it . .IMO

I've come back with some musings

Just got a Bongo HHp with a 4 band EQ just like the Shuttlemax... I've played extensively with the Bongo but not the shuttlemax due to a sleeping baby!

I took what I learned from the bongo EQ to the Shuttlemax today & wow what difference

I've found with a 4 band EQ I have the best results making the lows & low mids do opposite things.

Rounder tone: Boost lows, cut low mids
Aggressive: Cut lows, boost low mids

Works great on my Bongo & works fantastic on the Shuttlemax

FET channel has the cut lows, boost low mids, use the high mids & treble to taste
TUBE: Boost lows, cut low mids, usually cut high mids unless I want some grit, treble to taste

Going back & forth between the 2 channels is now fantastic. If you want to subtly change the tone on each channel I use the footswitch.

I'll add lows or cut mids to the FET (Its too much on the tube channel as its set up)

I'll add some hi freq attack to the TUBE channel for some extra grit or add upper mids


Being new to 4 band basses & amp EQs its a steep learning curve but keeping the lows & low mids opposite for me has really helped
