Genz Benz - Streamliner + Focus LT 112's

I'm not sure how far behind you I am, Jerry, but it's probably not too far. I played last Saturday night using King Koa w/ flats into the Streamliner and my Berg NV-610. I struggled to get as much punch as I would have liked... the Aggie DB-751 was dancing in my head on the way home from the gig (which was in Richmond, 3 hours away)...

I've played around some more with the Streamilner here at the store, and I think I've got to a better spot with it... but it's just hard to say without guitars, keys & drums all trying to cover me up. Harumph.

I think you totally nailed it. I made the mistake of assuming the the tone I dialed in at the store would do it for me. (In my defense...I've gotten fairly good at this over the years. I think in this case I just wanted to like the amp too much.) Between adding other instruments and room dynamics, the Steamer just takes too much work to get there. Undoubtedly the right amp for some folks...just not me.

I sold my S900 some time back for the same reason. It killed with a P-bass. But with anything else I could never dial the wool out without gutting the tone.

Greg, you should try the TH500 through your NV-610 on a gig. To my ears it is a nice middle ground between a Shuttle and Streamliner. It has more mids than the Shuttle, less wool than the S900, and the parametric mid eq gives you flexibility. Plus the drive can give you a cool edge if you want it.

+1 to all of that. I am really coming to like the TH500 for its tasteful amount of aggressive mids and grit. Not that impressive of a bedroom/showroom tone, but really functional and seems to have a big punch for a 4 lb amp rated at 500 W (Aguilar suggests you compare to other 900 W SMPS amps like the Shuttle 9.0 due to their design).

In any case, yes absolutely it's worth trying a lot of things. The Shuttle amps do a great job for a lot of people. Despite a lot of dedicated Streamliner fans I think there is just way too much "baked in" tone that you're fighting against for most situations.

FWIW, there is GK stuff I really dig, and there is GK stuff I can't stand. Like whatever cab the dude was running through in that vid. :) I do confess, though...for way too long to remember I never cared for their stuff. It was an eye (and ear) opener to check out the more current stuff at my local store.
