Genzler Amplification Announces BA210-3 BASS ARRAY Model

GENZLER® AMPLIFICATION is proud to announce the addition of the BA210-3 design to the innovative BASS ARRAY® line of bass guitar cabinets the company first introduced in 2015. Based
upon the overwhelming success and popularity of the BASS ARRAY® 12-3 design, we’ve now expanded the line to include a 2 x 10” model.

Although the same size as many 2 x 10” and tweeter cabinets, this innovative design blends the
punch and quickness of premium Neodymium dual 10” drivers in a vented bass reflex enclosure
and the performance and pattern control of a 4 x 3” neodymium driver line array element. The
benefits of combining both design platforms in an extremely compact cabinet are exponential for
the player:

• Delivering full, deep, low frequency response from the high efficiency dual 10” woofers -- doing
what they do best, providing excellent support of the fundamental for the lower strings of the instrument.
• Using a selective crossover point this design overcomes the “beaming” (pattern narrowing) effects
of a full range signal being reproduced by larger low frequency drivers which is common in
many current small cabinet designs.
• Lowering midrange and high frequency distortion by allowing the use of small, 3” high performance cone transducers that would otherwise be unsuitable without the increased acoustic
sensitivity obtained by the array design.
• Providing a much more open, smoother midrange and high frequency response because of the ideal natural characteristics of the mid-high frequency array when compared to a conventional
tweeter that cannot reproduce the crucial midrange frequencies without pattern control or un- natural distortion.

The BA210-3 is an extremely lightweight (38 lbs) 500 watt, 8 ohm cabinet offering those players
who gravitate to the response of 10” drivers a more full-bodied, defined, musically smooth and
seamless cabinet choice. The placement of the line array in front and between the 10” woofers
further provides an extremely broad projection, quickness and articulation that is not possible
with standard 2x10” designs. Also due to line array principals the all-important mid and high frequencies have a much wider horizontal dispersion with a more controlled vertical pattern. This
offers the most even projection possible around the perimeter of the stage and audience.
With the introduction of the BASS ARRAY® designs and the new BA210-3,
GENZLER® AMPLIFICATION continues to exceed the performance expectations in compact,
high output, bass cabinet design.

Would this design work as a single vertical cab?

I wouldn't turn it on its side, if that's what you're asking, as that would defeat the purpose of the line array, which is vertical in order to increase dispersion of the mid and high frequencies. When you flip the cab onto its side, you now have your mids and highs coming from a wider, horizontal source, which will actually DECREASE your dispersion.

If the highs were coming from a single tweeter, then it would work fine. But with the vertical line array in this cab, I wouldn't recommend it.

I think a vertical 210 would have been better! My hunch is there must be another cab this is supposed to go on.

Then how would you have crammed-in the line array?

Keep in mind that the smaller drivers aren't just covering the treble, but also much of the midrange-- frequencies that the more conventional 2x10 would still be utilizing the 10" drivers for (hence why a vertical format would make great sense for a conventional 2x10).

Jeff can correct me if I'm wrong, but my suspicion is that the 10" drivers in the BA210-3 cover primarily the bass and lower midrange frequencies, leaving at least the upper mids, if not the center mids, to the line array. If this is the case, then the benefit of a vertical format would be greatly-diminished, since the 10" drivers are primarily handling frequencies that are omni-directional.

A lot of guys just see another 2x10 cab with a nifty feature and make assumptions about the cab's characteristics accordingly, and I don't think the conventional assumptions apply here at all.

I get the theory, but when "the all-important mid and high frequencies have a much wider horizontal dispersion with a more controlled vertical pattern" it doesn't do me much good when it's happening at the back of my legs.
But since the Magellan can do a 2.6 Ohm load..........
 
Now he has me thinking we will see a 1x15 array next. I have 3 of the 12-3 bass arrays and love them with the Magellan 800. I mostly player 4x10 or 2x10 SWR Goliath cabs before, and like the weight, punch and depth from the 12-3 Bass Array. The 2x10 Bass array is 4" wider than the 12-3 cabinet. Need to see a photo of the stack, but I'm tempted to get one just to have the variety...
 
It is coppping Bill Fitzmaurice's design. I wouldn't say the horn "isn't needed." I would venture the price point of building this with a horn loaded design would be pricey.
These look like Bill Fitzmaurice designs, without the horn; although, maybe the horn isn't needed because the crossover is lower and the array is using 3" cones instead of tweeters...?
 
Would this design work as a single vertical cab?
The two 10s are staggered so that one sits higher in the cabinet than the other. This should ameliorate the wave and sound canceling problems that may occur when bass speakers are arrayed horizontally in parallel inside the cab.

Unless you want the height to rest your amp or other speakers on the cab, there is probably no sonic reason to turn them to be a vertical cab.
 
So... this is designed to be perfect when you stack up four of them to make an 8x10 cab with 16 tweeters? Doesn't bringing multiple cabs defeat the whole purpose of the "compact but efficient 2x10-sized cab"?

It's a cool design, but I honestly don't see how it's useful for bass players, unless you also bring a pole to mount it on, or are playing arena stages with, er, inadequate stage monitors and no in-ears?

I want to like it. But I don't get it.
