German corvette vs German $$

It's funny because that's exactly what I did.
I traded my German Warwick Corvette STD jazz to get a German Warwick Corvette $$.
It's now one of my favorite basses and my go to bass.
Very versatile in the pickup department especially the 3 position switch for both pickups.
My preamp in the $$ gave out and started making a horrible noise when in active mode.
I upgraded to an Audere Pro Z and I am very happy.
The MEC pickups are very hot, so beware if you change the preamp.
The Audere has a gain knob for each pickup and I have to set both to about 15%.
I traded my German Warwick Corvette STD jazz to get a German Warwick Corvette $$.
It's now one of my favorite basses and my go to bass.

But what are the neck issues with the $$?? That worries me hearing that. Any time I hear a bass has neck issues and preamp issues or other stuff I immediately think "What else has this bass been thru that I don't know about"??
Personally, I love the Corvette standard models. They are great basses. Any way to see the $$ before trading?

I would stay far away from that trade. I have a Corvette Standard, and that's my preference; your preference may be a $$. On this particular instrument, the neck has been shaved, so you have no idea if you're going to like it or not. The preamp is going out, so you'll have to spend some bucks on that. You may or may not like the preamp you put in. There's a limited amount of travel on the truss rod. That may not be a problem now, and it may not ever be, but it may turn into a very expensive problem in the future.

One thing I don't get about the $$ is how close the pickups are together... The $$ outer coils are inline with the Corvette's single coils like this:

I'd prefer it a lot more if the $$'s inner coils were inline with the Corvette's single coils, like this:

This would make it more versatile, giving the bridge pickup more growl/burp, like a dolphin, and the neck pickup would be inline with a Fender split P pickup. I've actually been tempted to buy a Corvette, and route new pickups to fit Twin-J pickups to have the pickup placements I would want. Plus adding a 3-way switch for each pickup to split between Series, outer single coil, and inner single coil.

I don't know and I am in no way an expert but that sounds like a lot of work done to that neck for some reason. Did they give you a reason why that stuff had to be done? Literally I have owned almost 20 Warwick basses and never had to do anything like that to a neck. Not just Warwicks either. I have owned tons of basses and never had to have that done.
I had my tech install it since I'm not familiar with wiring and also needed to create another whole for the Z switch.
I'm not familiar with noll preamps. I am on the fence on getting a john east j-retro deluxe for my fender.
Before getting the Audere, I was very close on getting the mike pope flex core pre.
The early $$ basses were wonderful things, I sold mine to a pupil and regretted it afterwards. I bought a later model and it was nowhere near as good, seemed to have much cheaper pickups and I could never get the neck to settle with a low action. Maybe they went through a quality glitch period? All I do know now is that there are no new ones around, since Warwick's prices went ridiculously stellar!

This bass has been modified and the preamp needs to be replaced. There are four or five turns left on the truss rod. How much do you think would be a reasonable price? The person had it for sale for $999 then dropped the price. Now is willing to trade for a corvette 6 german made in exellent condition. He

Run from that deal; just like the guys mentioned in the thread you had started. That is not a good deal at all. Don't even think about doing it.
Just a guess but maybe the owner found the neck too thick (like some Warwick necks are) and decided to shave it down? Don't know about the clear coat.
To be honest it wasn't for me it was for my cuz. Virginiabaseman, he even posted pictures of the $$ in question. I told him the same thing that everyone said. He is new here so I posted the thread. I think he got the message. Thanks
