I never saw that show but I think that that type of music was mandatory on old documentaries. They used to regularly run “educational” films like that in school.

I have a John Lee Hooker story. I went to an afternoon show in an old theater in the early 70’s. We had center stage seats near the front. The place was almost empty. The band played some warmup songs then out comes the chair and John Lee. He played a long show for a small but enthusiastic group of fans. One of those days that you never forget.
