I use FB to follow artists, that is about it. With the new update of Meta A.I., facebook ONLY allows searches(in the magnifier search bar) with the AI option now---there is no way to uninstall the AI or go around it. All you can do, is uninstall your current version of FB and install an older version.

I don't really care about "agreeing with the terms". The problem is, the AI search bar and no option to revert back on the newest updated app. Downloading an older FB app (say from 2022) works just fine for using the old, 'normal' search bar, within the app.

As far as I know, the search bar in the Instagram app, uses AI also, but with a choice to search without AI also.

Because, when I type in a band name in the search bar, AI spits out whatever the hell it wants to(usually a long definition) minus the band that was actually searched.

I downloaded the APK files, they are harmless. Sometimes you gotta take chances, to make things work.

I'm about tired of this AI crap, insofar as it's being used by bad folk or companies who aren't fully forthcoming with their usage purposes.

We all know, or you should by now, of recording your, or a loved one's, voice to generate an AI speech program to steal money from folk like you and me.

I'd already read a few stories about this, but last week I was in the doctor's office and a woman said it'd happened to her 6 times already using her son's voice to try and get money from her. She said it sounded exactly like her son.

She was an intelligent woman and figured it out early. One phone call was from her 'son' saying he was arrested while in a car with friends and he didn't know about the drugs that were discovered in the car. Of course, he needed money. Well, she told her 'son' that her son is a police officer (he really is). The caller hung up LOL.

For some phone calls that might be important to me, but I don't recognize the number, I switch to a heavy exaggerated Texan/hillbilly accent. "How 'r yeeeew?" LOL. I demonstrated it for my daughters, so if they get a call from 'dad' with a wonky accent, they'll know it's fake.

Just pisses me off that common folk have to dance this jig with fothermucking thieves, but here we are. The dangers of AI, in the wrong hands, have shown themselves rather quickly. As if we don't have other life-critical things to worry about.

Sorry, wasn't quite on-topic. I don't have any social media accounts. This AI thing seems to be happening on YouTube, though.

Here is the last search I did , before I got fed up.

Typed in a Czech punk band.
Now, If I type that in the regular search bar, it shows bands with that name.

I am basing this off of years of off and on thinking it's fun to mess with phone scammers, which it sometimes can be, but engagement seems to bring on more calls. I know personal information is swapped around scamming groups. I am convinced that if you let them run their script and try to interject or delay or otherwise waste as much time as possible, they pass on your information out of spite (I would be quite a jerk and learned to swear in some fun languages). I know these people are scum, but these days I just go with "hello" and a hang up.

I never wanted to mess with scammers before.

But today's AI voice threat is new and very different from past scams. In other words, they can now use your voice and scam folk you know and love. My immediate response to start to negate this garbage is not give 'em my voice. Seems sensible until something better comes along.

I don't know how big or small of a sample the scammer needs to generate a working AI voice simulation. It may be just a few key words in your normal voice, like "Hello", "Good", "Yes", and other answers that they seem are very pointedly wanting you to say. Or it may be 30 seconds of straight conversation. Fact is, I don't know and won't chance it in my normal voice or expected responses.

Caller: How are you?
Expected: Good, Fine
Me with mish-mash accent: Well, I'm just finer than a frog hair. How 'r yeeew?

Caller: Can you hear me ok?
Expected: Yes.
Me: Why, I can hear an ant pee on a mothball. Yeew jus' keep on 'a talkin'.

You get the idea. Don't give expected answers and don't use your normal voice. Pro Tip: Try not to use a foreign accent that you don't know how to speak. One real person started speaking to me in that language. The only time I ever hung up LOL.

Oddly enough, I've been doing this long enough that, for some reason, the calls have lessened. Also automated and live humans hang up sooner when I start talking these days. I think they're on to me LMFAO!

Also fun to keep asking the automated calls "Are yeew a human?" Trips 'em up sometimes. Some have lied and said "Yes" or said they're transferring me to a manager.

Won't be stopping anytime soon with the accent thing. Having way too much fun with it.

Late edit: That accent thing is fun for me, but if I remember correctly, one of the articles I read mentioned having a safe word to be used for verification with friends/relative .

I tried that with a few bands also. It does not work. And fwiw, after I downloaded an older version of FB, it auto updated, and now my 2020 FB version has the AI search also. I am done with it, for the most part. Bandcamp does not have AI and alot of the obscure Euro punk bands are moving to bandcamp.
