Gettin' Me a Fender JP 90

CraigsList strikes again! Gonna grab a Fender JP 90 tomorrow morning. Sounds like older folks on the phone, they say it wasn't played much, and I am momentarily a sucker for white/ivory basses. Read all the posts I possibly could about the JP 90 so I realize it may not be the greatest bass, but being American made, and only $275, I just have to give it a whirl. Despite that strange pick-guard......I'll post a pic when it's home here with me....Bud

They're light and punchy. The electronics are pretty noisy. And the pickguard is a one ply piece of crap. Aside from that, they're a fun bass. If you upgrade the pickguard, get some foil for the cavity - might solve both its key problems right there.

Personally, I'd recommend what I did, which was to have the input relocated to a more durable location. I purchased mine (used) with the plastic pick guard cracked right at the input jack. Took it into my luthier and he routed a new hole out the side that's much more sturdy. With the input jack relocated he was able to reuse that hole in the pickguard for an additional volume knob to give more versatility than the three way toggle.

Yea, you know, it might be a great platform for some fun changes....BadAss bridge, Fralin pu's, and I like the jack relocation idea! Thanks guys....Bud
I ended up swapping out the stock pickups for a Dimarzio PJ set, and it definitely gave me a lot more punch. But of course, make sure you decide that something's broken before fixing it.;)

This was my second bass about 8 or 9 years ago, bought it used for around 350$. Awesome neck and very easy to play. The only down side I remember was the body being very frail and it seemed to get dinged up easily. I just happen to like heavy basses though.
