Gettin my bass

Conga-ratulations! That's a really nice starter rig.

Hey, my two cents on your next bass, since you were looking ahead in that post: check out the MTD Artist or Heir, and the Lakland Skylines. They go for pretty cheap on the used market, and I think they're very good values.

Ah--and another sleeper (IMHO) is a MIM Jazz Deluxe.

The cool thing is that as you develop your bass chops you'll also get a clearer sense of your preferences in a bass's feel and tone--so that will guide you toward your next move.

Congrats!

I just bought my first bass too. Got an Ibanez BTB1305E used. I wanted a 5er.

Looks similar to the amp I'm using too. I got a 60 watt Fender Rumble 12". It's good for practice, but if I were to gig with it, I'd use the line out and run to the board. That single 12" woofer gets eaten alive by my low B string at even moderate volume.

I like the amp though. Lots of features for the money. I like that I can hook up my iPhone to it. I have a cool metronome app (called Metrock) and I like to run it through the amp when I play. I always try to play with a beat or a metronome.

Like you, I thought the Ibanez "felt" right. I liked the deep tone too. I tried a Squire Jazz 5er, and didn't like the way it felt as much as I did the Ibby.

Being a newbie, I know next to nothing about basses. So if mine is a pile of crap, I don't know it. I just play it and love it. :)
