Getting A 5-String

Yeah, first post on these boards.

I'm looking to buy a 5-string, I currently use my Ibanez Soundgear 500 4-String, and absolutely love it.

I've got a budget of a max of 800$.

Things I'm looking for:

Good tapping (I'm a huge Protest the Hero fan, so I do that a lot)

Good Slap

I'm more a metal/progressive player, so something more oriented around that.

When at gigs, I play the PA that's provided (Some fender amp that glows red at the bottom :l)

Check out a SR505 or if your budget will alow it a SR 705. Either way theyre great basses I own both a SR 505 and a SR 700, and they'll defenatily do what you want them to do.

What do you think of the spector Legend5's? Would I get more performance from the 705?

I just bought a used sr505 and put it up against my brand new ray35 sterling...and I'm returning the ray35. The sr505 just works perfect for our style..breaking benjamin, disturbed, etc

Spectors are awesome. Just try a bunch out and see what you like.

you could try ESP/LTD or if ibanez you like..i'm thinking of a BTB

Check Ebay for a TL-5.. botique quality for under $500

Definitely check out the Spectors. The Legend series can be had used for around $$350-400 bucks. Then you should replace the electronics with an active three band (around$200). After that you have a GREAT bass that equals $1000-$1500 models for around $600. THESE BASSES ROCK FOR METAL!!!!. Also, the Legend Custom, with a set neck design are even better deals but rarer to find. Best bang for the buck I ever spent on a bass.
