getting a new bass

this is like asking someone to suggest what your new favorite food should be. there are probably 1000 basses that you would enjoy in the 400-900 dollar price range.

In that price range, I can't think of many basses that I would actively stay away from other than for reasons based on personal taste. You really can't go wrong with the standards (like a Fender P or J), but a lot of companies out there offer basses with increadible playability and options for that price point. Personally, I would suggest a Fender Deluxe P-bass Special. It has active electronics with a P/J pup configuration and a jazz bass neck profile. Very comfotable & adaptable.
