Okay, last December, I got a Yamaha BB714BS bass guitar. It's got a humbucker in the neck position and a split-P bass pickup in the middle. Passive pickups, one volume knob for each pick-up and a tone knob, which when pulled, cuts the hi-end for the neck pickup. The nice thing is that I can get a really low bass tone from the neck humbucker.
I don't have a bass amp but have a Digitech BP90 effects unit. I play through that and listen through headphones.
So to get to my question, I like the Wayman Tisdale tone. It's punchy, clean, and treble-y.
I guess you can look him up on youtube if you don't know what his sound is. Smooth jazz music. I can't quite dial it in and maybe it is because of my pickups? Or maybe I need a pre-amp to EQ it. I think I may be able to get that tone using my Digitech effects unit. Any help? And, it's okay to be very descriptive, i.e. dumb it down. I don't know bass lingo. I don't know what people mean by scooped mids.
Thanks.
