Out of curiosity, how does a well-known artist go about getting a signature model? For example, did Marcus Miller ask Fender for a signature model or did they approach him about it? I'm sure it's different for alot of cases but I was wondering.. Thanks alot

Getting a signature model...

I thought it was usually musicians play whatever they like and the companies of that musician's bass/guitar/whatever contacts the musician and copy the instrument or something like that.........
Fender asked marcus miller if they could borrow his bass and he allowed them to go in and look at it from every angle and made a Sig. model for him. So in this case (like most cases id imagine) the artist was asked.
