Getting hurt in other activities (fear of)...

I've woken up being cut out of my Aerostitch.
We used to use 280 like it was a test track.

All I'm going to say about my riding.
Riding a computer for a living will do more damage to your hands.

I've played tournament paintball, baseball + soccer thru school, I like to fight, surfed, rode all kinds of bikes on the street and trails, into 3-gun locally, did commercial roofing, liked doing commercial demo, tied steel, poured concrete, loved breaking loading docks with a jackhammer, and ironically it's making a living on a keyboard that does the most damage. I've loaded my fair share of rock boxes full of old asbestos impregnated concrete. I rode jackhammer on a crew with my iron worker uncle and demoed a Pier in San Francisco, I'm going to die from something work related. I believe it's cloud architecture that will do me in.

I knew a girl we called "Excessive Whoa" bc she had huge boobies and the judge at her hearing was reading the charges off and got to the speed she was clocked at by Serramonte Mall and almost gagged. Little blonde, 5' 4", DD's, rode a worked over GSXR1100r (if you can believe that), went to Mills unfortunately.

I know a guy that used to like to drink tequila and ride an R1 on 580.
He left a couple fingers, knee cap, toe, and bunch of skin near the 880/580 split.

I know another guy that put an R6 in the Pacific Ocean, twice.

Another dude got tboned on his 929rr by an Uber flipping one, he was stationary and stopped.

Track riding is fine, most I've seen a guy lose is his pride and some shop time. I've never seen anyone full on high side and total a bike like the movies.

Street riding is where you lose body parts, total your bike, or die.

I own a production trim company with my brother, who is also my drummer, constantly using 12" compound sliding miter saws and table saws among many other tools as well, usually in a very unorthodox manner. I have for years, Many times over the years, Ive seen horrific accidents right in front of me in various trades ranging from missing digits to fatalities. It goes through my head daily, particularly when cutting 3 to 4 inch pieces of hardwood on the 12 inch chops. My hands will be within 3 to 4 inches of the blade routinely, way past the safe line.

man, my hometown. Grew up in half moon bay. We used 280 as a racetrack constantly. Skyline as well. Yeah, Ill take track riding over the street any day. I ride and R1 on the street, My racebike is a vintage R6 with an R1 front end grafted on to it.

The only times my hand has been out of commission was (1) when a school bully kicked my hand when I wasn't looking and broke my pinky, and (2) when I was learning to roller skate at the rink and some guys ran me over and broke my wrist.

I was a woodworker in school for 5 years. Been fixing cars for 20. Cutting, welding, metal fabrication for about that long. Spent this weekend cutting patches and welding up a mower deck. Have put thousands of miles on my Schwinn since I bought it new in 1988. I still have all my fingers. Just be mindful of what you are doing, take the proper safety precautions. Think about what can happen before it does. I won't use the grinders at work because they run them without guards, and I've seen what can happen. I had a cutoff wheel explode once and it went through BOTH walls of a large plastic bin. If it weren't for the guard I was using I probably wouldn't be typing this.

Skyline, man they're cracking down right now bc apparently they forgot to police it for like a decade. Pedestrian deaths in San Mateo alone are as high as gun fatalities in Richmond. It's turned into Death Race, which I don't condone. It looks like The Fast and the Furious at night, kids now think that they invented street racing.

I'm 42, I remember dudes driving around with electrically heated nitrous bottles looking for trouble. Serious Harley and GSXR guys around the early 2k's packed turbos and shots as well.

Kids in the Peninsula don't mix gang banging with street racing like they used to, so that's nice.

I started out playing goalie in hockey at the age of four. I was pretty seriously into it all through high school with travel teams etc.

I started getting serious with playing music around 17/18 years old. I continued to play hockey and bass at the same time but they would both compete for my attention. After high school I continued to play hockey in men's league for fun year round.

Eventually I came to the realization that although hockey was my first love, it was a bit too risky to continue on playing. Especially with being a goalie, the risk of injury to my fingers is too high. I plan on continuing on my interest in hockey by being a goalie coach or youth hockey coach on the side. This will be a good way for me to be involved without having to put my body on the line.

I experienced a most wonderful shoulder blade breaking on an ATV. I watched it do a somersault in front of me just a few feet away. A huge 4 wheel drive Polaris. I was glad it didn't somersault on me as I probably wouldn't be here typing this I'm pretty sure.

So, Ive seen a couple other motorcycle road racers on here by profile photos. I road race, its a dangerous sport. Frequent injuries to the wrists, fingers and shoulders. It goes through my head, occasionally that it could have negative impacts on my playing ability if I sustain injuries doing it. I race more conservatively because of it. I raced motocross and enduros as well, and got banged up pretty good doing that. Any other racers on here and even just in general have activities that you do that put you at risk of injuries that you worry about and if so, what do you do about it?
Being alive is full of risks we accept every day. Just last week I was using a Dremmel to cut the nylon nuts off a toilet seat and a piece of molten plastic jumped into my ear canal. That was a frightening moment but all is well.

Just before our last rehearsal I got a paper (well, cardboard) cut on my right middle finger tip. I tend to play two finger style, and that injury left me playing with a pick that evening.

Fortunately the human body is quite resilient, or we'd all be falling apart from these little life experiences.

I'm in my 50s and still play full contact ice hockey and skate in pro-am leagues in the summer. You can't go into any sport worrying about injuries. If you do, you will probably get hurt. Over the years I have suffered 5 concussions, broke my nose 3 times, have had over 30 stitches in my chin and and another 25 over my left eye brow, broke the index finger on my left hand, fractured both thumbs, tore ligaments in my left thumb, dislocated both shoulders, separated my left AC joint, fractured my ribs, fractured my left shin, fractured my left ankle, have bone chips in both elbows, bruised a kidney, tore my quadricep, have had 2 surgeries on my left knee, 1 surgery on my right shoulder which required 4 screws to repair multiple tears in the rotator cuff, tears in the labrum, tears in the bursar, bone spurs and impingement of the bicep tendon and believe it or not, I actually enjoy hockey more than playing music. (I still have all my own teeth)
Sounds like you must've worried about injury often

I used to sky dive. Not much you can do about it but check your rig and get right with the universe before you let go of the wing strut
