Getting Serious

Hello,
My name is Al and I am a self taught Bass Player and have been playing at home for a few years. I am taking a more serious and theoretical approach to my Bass playing. I am studying music keys one by one. I am currently studying the key of B. What are some good beginner / intermediate level Jazz, R&B, and Gospel songs I can use as study material? Thanks.

No references to songs but IME, any song can be transposed to any key. Learning to transpose is a skill in itself. Have you tried that?

No I haven't. I want to learn the keys, scales and the I, II, iii's before getting into transposing.

Stumbo makes a good point. You can play any tune you know in the key of B to become more familiar with that key. I might suggest that you transpose many of the tunes you know to the key of B and you'll be more familiar with that key. You can do this for all of the other keys as well. Transposing to other keys is more effective than limiting yourself to specific tunes that are written in the key of B.

If you learn the scales and I,II,iii's of B, transposing will be straight forward. It takes time, of course, but the time you would spend looking for songs in the key of B can be spent doing the transposing.
