Getting tracks from cubase (my comp) to friend's comp

I went over to a band member's house to record yesterday. After being stressed out with lame garage band and a toneport, I decided that it would be best if I did the bass recording at my house, on my comp, with my interface (firebox), and my software (cubase le). The drummer is the one doing all the mixing and mastering. We agreed that once I finished recording for the song(s), he'd hop on over here with a usb flashdrive, grab the track(s), and take 'em back to his place to mix them with the rest of the mix.

I'm assuming that this is possible, but I need to know the best (or only) way to do this. Would he be able to just grab the file like it is as an unfinished cubase song? Or would I need to export the file as a "finished song" into iTunes or onto my desktop or something in some finished format (like wav, mp3, AIFF, mpeg, etc.)? Help would be unbelievably appreciated. I hope this works though- last time I was trying to export a "finished" song in cubase, it wouldn't let me. As soon as I'd try to export, an error message would immediately pop up. hmmm....

Its quite possible. But there are some if's. Like if you recorded on Cubase 4 or 3 and the other computer is running on Cubase 1 or 2 you'll have problems. If you've recorded the original tracks on an old version of cubase you will be able to open them on a newer version but won't be able to transfer them back.

What you should do is:

-create a new folder and name it for the project.

-Open the recorded project you have.

-In the file menu, use the "Save Project to a new Folder" function. It will take a while to copy all your tracks, wave forms and images to the new folder.

From here you can take the whole file with you and use it on any other computer running cubase.

You can export the whole project to a single file.

Open the project, click on File->Export->OMF.

Take this to your friends comp, open Cubase, click File->Import->OMF. It will import it and open the project just as it was when you exported it.


However, it is a large file as it contains all of the recordings as WAV's.

I am not sure with LE, I have Cubase SX and you can find each track in the Audio Folder of where you saved your project and just grab those files.

The other thing you can do, if you have done any editing etc and want to keep it like that is to export an audio file. If you mute everything else and export a mixdown, you will end up with a bass only mix which will be an audio file that you can put in the flash drive etc...
