My EBS true bypass octabass, when bypassed still imparts some octave effect. How can that be possible?

if your cable is kinked, the effects gets clogged, not unlike a garden hose. Just straighten it out and be on your way.
The title of this thread makes me think of the 1993 horror movie "ghost in the machine".
