GHS flats vs bright flats-newbie question

Well, thanks to this community which has helped me greatly in getting started understanding bass strings. I have tried out both the Ernie Ball Slinky Cobalt Flats at the suggestion of michael_t and they did fit my short scale just fine, and the GHS Precision Flats. What an amazing difference. Both were great but my experience of the Precision Flats was that they are indeed very woody sounding, smooth, creamy and great for precisely just that sound, but there was no brightness that could be accentuated, if needed, and thus they struck me as a wonderful unidimensional tool. Putting the Cobalt flats back on, I was really struck by how multidimensional the strings were tonally. I could get a soft, smooth, dark sound or something brighter with a bit of life and "growl, just by adjusting the balance between my PJ style PUPs and my tone control on this passive bass. So I am choosing the Ernie Ball Slinky Cobalt Flats. Thank you for all of your comments. While this subject is old hat to experienced bass players and probably beaten to death, it REALLY helped me a lot know what to look for and then choose my own preference. It was totally worth it buying the two sets and comparing (and as a newbie aside - man is it easier to change bass strings than it is to change guitar strings - impressive!)
