Which are the ones with purple silk?

I heard a set on an old Kramer (aluminum neck) with EMG P/J pups, last weekend. The bass sounded fantastic. I ask, because GHS has more than one type of flats.

GHS only has one true flatwound set,GHS Precision Flatwound,and the strings have purple silk .They also have a string they call "Brite Flats" but these are not true flatwounds,they are ground roundwounds. I love the GHS Precision Flatwounds. I am doing a Blues gig this weekend and I will be using a P with GHS Flats ! Steve

Yep, what p-bass said. GHS' only real flatwound is the Precision Flats. The Brite-Flats are a modified roundwound, made very much like the way D'Addario Half-Rounds are.

I think the GHS ones have purple silk, but the ones that say "Lakland Joe Osborn" on them have a black silk on both ends.

Yep. Precision Flatwounds. They have the prurple silk. Brite Flats, as another poster said, are not really flats but ground down rounds and have blue silk. I have PFs on 3 of may basses and they are most cool strings.

i brought some from ebay the other week for no other reason than they were cheap and i really like them. I think they're better than the chromes that i had on my bass.

Cool! I thought the brite flats were flat wound, as well. I'm going to have to buy a set to try. I really liked the tone that was coming from that bass (the guy was using my rig).

I've had both Brite Flats and Precision flats. I love the Precision Flats.
Brites have too tight of tension for me.

anyway, i thought the P-Flats had black silk and the Brite Flats have Purple Silk?

either way, i'm pretty colorblind...

hows the tension on those precision flats?

I have them on my bass for about three months. They are amazing! They taste a little like the TIs I had once (heresy!), but with more low mids and without the floppyness (sp?) of the TIs.

As for the tension, they are almost the same as my previous hi-beams. I didn't even touched the truss rod.

The Precision Flatwound and Brite Flats both have purple silks on them. I have both and I can't tell the difference between the 2 by looking at them.
