Been using flatwounds for a long time now. Dunlop Stainless Steel Flatwounds to be exact. They are my favorite flays as (a they have more tension than TI Flats and (b don’t have the zing of Chromes. I have a Fender AVRI 57 Precision with an SD SPB-1. I had a unopened set of Pressurewounds and decided to try them out. My initial impression was that they are very balanced from string to string and do have a bit more focus than the flats (the latter part clearly understandable as the pressurewound fall in between flats and full or round wounds. They have far less zing than round wounds, but definitely haven’t a bit more than flats (once again, the latter part is completely understandable). The game changer was one application of Eucerin skin cream. I did one application to each string, but didn’t leave it on overnight. I left a generous coating on each string and then wiped them off with a polishing cloth. The results were perfect. Same string to string balance, same smooth thump with the tone rolled off, but the zing is completely gone. Conclusion, I have now found a new favorite string.
