GHS Super Steels

I just changed the strings on my Mustang Bass to Roundwound from Flats.
Really changed the way the bass speaks and feels. I love the flats but the round wounds are pretty cool.
GHS makes a medium scale set of Super Steels - I may want to check out next.

Or if anyone else has any suggestions for medium scale Stainless let me know.

Something the OP should know about GHS and Ken Smith...

Ken Smith bass strings are made by GHS to Ken Smith's specs. For "medium scale", KS has what they call "Custom Balanced Round Wounds", which are essentially the same strings as the GHS Super Steel with minor spec differences. The gauges are identical, 44-63-84-106.

Master Series - Ken Smith Basses

GHS "medium scale" = 35.5" in winding length (ball end to taper/silk).
KS "medium scale" = 35" in winding length (ball end to taper/silk).
KS "short scale" = 34.5" in winding length (ball end to taper/silk). = This happens to be the best length for the thru-body Mustang, although the other two would work as well.

EDIT: Super Steels = medium grey silk at tuner end only. Ken Smith = purple silk at both ends.

Dunlop Super Bright Stainless Steels also come in "medium scale" with 34" winding length (ball end to taper).

If you want a rounder tone, GHS Balanced Nickels short scale on a Mustang vintage-style string-through-body will just fit with the silk just beyond the nut when you get the strings up to pitch. I wish Scott Whitley would update his web site from where the above video comes from to include this set of strings, which came out after he did all his string reviews.

I liked medium-scale Boomers on my Mustang. Short-Scale DR Sunbeams also fit, and sound good, although possibly darker than what you're looking for. They also make Hi-Beams (steel) in that length.
