Gibson... again...

Back in the day, I worked for a company that made memory boards for the IBM PC and AT computers. Boards that failed testing were diverted to a holding area. The powers that be decided it was more cost effective to destroy those boards rather than pay technicians to troubleshoot them to component level and then have a rework person desolder the bad component, install the replacement, and send the board back to be retested, where it might still fail to pass.

I didn't like watching those either. I also said it was a long story. I also said context is everything, so why dontcha just drop it?

In what possible context is watching someone get killed easier than watching guitars get destroyed?

What if it was just one guitar? Or a $20 ukulele? Would you be able to watch that?

How many guitars does it take to be less watchable for you than a murder? Or is it by dollar value? What amount of inanimate product is more difficult to watch than a human life being ended?

The wood had to be cut and shaped and painted. The metals and plastics had to be ripped out of the earth and refined and shipped and shaped into components.
It all takes energy. It all puts CO2 and solvents and diesel particles into the atmosphere.
So, yes, to destroy it and to waste it hurts us all, poisons us all.
Just because this the way capitalism has to work does not make it right. And it's not necessarily permanent. Probably can't be if we want to survive, no matter how much we love our toys and trinkets.

Yawn. Not enough destruction. Ida used one of those giant shredder machines that munch up anything that gets thrown in.

Utilizing a magnetic conveyor would separate all the metal bits from the wood bits. Then take all the wood shreds and pulverize it into a fine powder. Mix that powered wood, stain and nitro with other iridescent paint powders and create a specialized finish option known as Phoenix Ash or something along those lines.

Seriously? Really?

Lissen, man, If you wanna go all Tor browser and watch murder videos, go ahead. I don't have it installed, I don't go looking for this stuff.

Obviously you want the long story.

I was at a fricking party. People were trawling the dark web. Stuff was seen. I didn't put it on.

Are you satisfied with the long version? Do you want more details?

I don't watch murder videos nor associate with people who do.

Why did you being it up in comparison to this video in the first place?

First, not everyone does it. Second off, that wouldn’t make it right either way.

It would have hurt them in no way to have given them away. Depending how they played their cards, they could have gotten a huge tax break.

This vid really ruined my day.

How much would it cost you to rent the trucks that picked them up after you spent countless hours trying to contact (or create) programs that would utilize these very unique guitars? How much storage space do you have? How much time do you have? Now magnify that tenfold.

It’s not unplayable. The electronics are stupid and difficult to use, but it’s not unplayable. Don’t act like the guitar is gonna break after five minutes.

Assume they donate it to kids. Once a kid learns how to use it, they’ll no how to use it. And most kids these days are so immersed in tech, they’ll be able to figure it out so much quicker than someone born 40 years ago. Plus, kids are gonna be a lot more thrilled about space age tech in a crazy looking guitar than an old fella.

I don’t know where you’re getting that “unfixable warp” thing from, but that’s not the case and therefore an invalid argument.

It was stated that the tech utilized on these is more or less obsolete. The kids don’t want or need the burden of having the equivalent to an Atari built into their guitar .

Good point.

There's also a very high failure rate in the electronics of the X. Electronics that can't be bypassed without using a soldering iron.

And it eats batteries like they're brownies in the green room at a show.

Kids have lower tolerance for defective, hard to use products than adults do.

They should have made it into a PR thing. Admit the Firebird x was terrible. Invite people to come to GC as PR events across the country and smash them in some kind of silly rig and do it while plugged into a stack. give the pieces away to people that attend and talk to players about the future of Gibson. Would have been a great way to Build your brand in an unexpected way. Ohhh well I’ve already decided not to ever purchase a Gibson anyways.

Because I frickin' love watching murder videos. All day long. I'm doing it right now, in fact. I have an entire queue of them lined up for this evening's viewing pleasure. One of them, my favorite, is called The Godfather. I also like The Departed because a lot of people get snuffed out, although the story is a little weak. Blade Runner is good too, but most of the "people" who get snuffed are alien replicants from beyond the moon. Also, the end of Taxi Driver is lined up (just the end), and then Seasons 1-17 of Game of Thrones, but I'll probably fall asleep by then.

Going back and editing your posts because you realize it was a mistake to say you were able to watch snuff films but couldn't stomach watching some guitars get run over is why edits are timestamped.
