Gibson... again...

So go buy one and give it to a kid. Gibson's donated over $30 million worth of gear already. And you guys have donated...?
Good. That's awesome. They also destroy a poopie ton of instruments apparently. All the materials, energy, oil, pollution that was a necessary to make every guitar they've destroyed was a complete waste. Very American attitude. 40% of food grown and put on a plate in this country is wasted yet 50 million people don't know when their next meal is coming. Those instruments could have been used for joy but instead it was for nothing. I hope something was recycled at least.

Seems like the species is fouling the nest.
That demolition man stomping the neck off the acoustic Gibson was shocking. All the Firebirds had flamed maple necks. Those trees died for nothing, except somebody got a paycheck I suppose.
Think Gibson carefully recycled all that toxic electronic waste? Me neither.
And not massive waste just in the music industry either, so many posters note it's just standard in all fields.
Hate to bring up the CO2 levels, too frightening-CO2 now >400ppb and rising. If you study Earth Science, that level has not happened since long before the Ice Ages.
Rising and dropping CO2 levels were exactly the means that Earth went into deep freeze from pole to pole at least twice-and then roasted twice as well when levels went back up again.
Are we as unthinking as yeasts cells in a wine vat? Happily excreting alcohol and CO2 until the mix reaches 12% and we all die happily in our own wastes?
Just asking if business as usual is OK when business is infinite and the planet is finite.

The planet will live on.

This thread, however, is doomed.

Hi Willie :)

Not worried about the thread or the planet, it's my comfortable little civilization I'm gonna miss.

I will give you a thump for that!

Don't believe everything you read in the newspapers (from corporate America's Big Science).

Indeed, there were higher levels of C02 in the atmosphere when plants and animals were several times larger than they are now. Reviewing your biology studies you will recall that plants use C02 in photosynthesis. They keep the carbon to combine with minerals obtained from their root system, and release the oxygen from the C02 into the atmosphere. Were this not so, we wouldn't be here, and neither would any other animal life. The more C02 there is, the more plant life there is going to be, and therefore, all things being equal, the more oxygen there is going to be. It's called the ecosystem. Furthermore, the warmer the planet might become within reason, of course, the more plant life and agriculture becomes possible, and therefore, the more food there will be.

Hint: If you burn gasoline in an internal combustion engine at stoichiometric ratios, the only byproduct (exhaust) is water and C02. Provided water injection is employed to prevent the ultra hot flame fronts created by the lean mixture from burning holes in the pistons and vaporizing the edges of the valves, such a motor will burn only 20% of the gasoline fuel ordinarily consumed by present day automobiles. Believe it or not, more or less 80% of the gasoline you put in your tank does not propel your automobile anyway. It cools the pistons, valves and cylinders and then burns up in the exhaust manifolds. Most of the fuel you put in the tank isn't even volatile enough to burn under compression in the combustion chamber, and if you leave gasoline in the gas tank long enough, none of it is. Your car won't run on it after the volatile fractions evaporate. This has been understood since the beginning of the internal combustion engine which was originally designed to use renewable methanol fuel on the farm. It's not a big secret. Very wasteful.

Now, why do you think C02 is demonized via junk science funded by massive amounts of corporate cash coupled with government complicity (they like the tax revenue from gasoline sales)? You get three guesses. The first two don't count. Just think how much more money you could keep from your gigs, your day job (if you have one), etc., and how many more bases and musical gear you could buy if you only needed one fifth the gasoline your using now to get where your going and back! This is how the infamous Nazi general Rommel was defeated in Northern Africa by Allied tanks fitted with the Polk carburetor. The patent for the Polk carburetor remained classified for decades after WWII. It cannot be used now on account of the additives in gasoline that will quickly clog it up, and Polk's invention is relegated in some circles to the status of an urban myth. Check out how much fuel NASCAR race cars are burning per race, how fast they're going, and how far they're going. Does it add up?

<Rising and dropping CO2 levels were exactly the means that Earth went into deep freeze from pole to pole at least twice-and then roasted twice as well when levels went back up again.>

Who told you that? Why did NASA space probes discover the polar ice caps on the outer planets were / are melting. Outer planetary warming caused by increased C02 levels in the outer planet's atmosphere's? Right.

<Are we as unthinking as yeasts cells in a wine vat? Happily excreting alcohol and CO2 until the mix reaches 12% and we all die happily in our own wastes?>

Yeah, maybe. Radioactive isotopes we have already released into the environment are going to be an increasing problem. C02 is the least of our worries. But the carbon taxes are sure to bring in plenty of $$$$ if the perpetrators are permitted to get away with them.

<Just asking if business as usual is OK when business is infinite and the planet is finite.>

No, business as usual is not okay. The nuclear power industry is not green, and needs to be totally shut down if it’s not already too late. Don't hold your breath for that to happen.

Since you hated to bring this subject up but did anyway, I responded. If the subject is forbidden, I wlll gladly take down this response.
